Oh, I know of a few non-cycling sites where you can discuss- erm, allegedly. So I’m told.notfastenough
Unless there’s something
Unless there’s something about the Trek to make you want it more, just go for the cheaper one. 150 euros is a decent pair of pedals and some change for shoes. Even if you had already set other cash aside for them, it’s a lovely pair of Rapha shorts or something.Which is lighter? Which has the better wheels? Which _looks_ faster?
For what it’s worth, I would be thinking of the Cube just because I like smaller, ‘cooler’ brands rather than the corporations, but I say that without any knowledge of the differences between them – maybe the Trek has better finishing kit or something?

@Nickobec, when you refer to
@Nickobec, when you refer to the initial sensation, do you mean that minty feeling that has you hopping round a dark bedroom on a Sunday morning?!If so, Assos is about enough for me…

Interesting tip re no showers
Interesting tip re no showers – is sudocrem antibacterial as well then? Also loving the fact that only a few posts ago Farky was trying to resurrect this thread with a few words about not being shy, and now we have someone telling us about a painful anus! 😀

Well I’m still on my first
Well I’m still on my first set of tyres since getting back into cycling, so I can only say that I chose Schwalbe Blizzard Sport to get me through a Manchester (read: potholed, lot of road muck) winter, and I’ve only had 1 puncture, but did notice a few cuts in the rubber when changing the tube.I should clarify my statement about SRAM – I believe cable tension/bedding in isn’t unique to SRAM. Also, as I say I’m learning quick, and can’t help feeling a little more confident about being out in the middle of nowhere, alone, in shocking weather!

Yeah, but with such low body
Yeah, but with such low body fat, their immune systems might not fair so well. A few illnesses or crashes on the ice could put paid to any fitness gained. Then again, let’s go with your plan and I’ll take their place in Majorca…

I’d also be interested to
I’d also be interested to hear from anyone who’s used those little gel-sized packs of chamois BUTTr (I think that was it’s name). Presumably these are intended to be taken with you on a long ride and applied when you stop for a coffee with a load more miles to go.notfastenough
Just a comment regarding SRAM
Just a comment regarding SRAM – I use a mix of Rival and Apex, and it’s causing me to learn quickly how to tune cable tension and derailleur movement limits etc as my new cable for the rear shifter settles in and loosens up. I don’t know if Shimano or Campag transmission would be as fussy.Other than that though, it is great kit.

Vike – it’s because quality matters. Asda jammies are clearly not as good as Krispy Kremes!notfastenough
Ha! Fair set of questions,
Ha! Fair set of questions, and often not discussed in polite company, which makes it perfect for the internet! 😀I’ve been using chamois cream with a synthetic pad, and it seems to work well. After a long ride I also use a skin repair gel after showering (both products from Assos), although I’m less convinced of the benefit of this.
It is my understanding (happy to be corrected if I’m doing it wrong!) that you apply the cream to the region in contact with the saddle, so nuts, sit-bones, perineum etc.
I just got back into cycling in September, so only have 3/4’s and tights, yet to buy shorts, will be interested therefore to hear any recommendations that others have.

Ok, cheers. My natural inclination would be sceptical of the bank route, but you have a point. -
