Except, like a lot of these things, it isn’t an americanism. It’s been around since Middle English. It would be more accurate to describe the use of ‘got’ in dynamic situations as a ‘britishism’.

Even if you’d been riding right over in the gutter, and even if they could have done so without breaking the speed limit, I can’t see where in that clip they think anyone would have been able to safely overtake you anyway, given oncoming traffic, parked cars, bend in the road, junctions, etc…

The worst part? They might have to park a bit further away.
Try to stop people using the side streets as a cut through in their cars, though, and people will be up in arms about that.
“Many locals prefer cycling along promenades or through parks rather than on busy main roads.” – so build safe segregated infrastructure so they don’t have to ride on main roads.Of course, routes through existing parks etc won’t necessarily get them where they want to go, so the obvious solution is to dig up the roads and replace them with parks to create cycle routes through.
