The bike has full length mudguards but it’s the bow wave that comes either side of the front wheels that sprays the cranks and chain with liquid mud.

Then you need a proper mud flap.

so, if the wheel nuts had been tightened and everything right; the cassette/locknut shouldnt have hit the frame, ever.

but then even if the the axlenuts were not tight the cassette/locknut shouldnt have hit the frame either, as the distance between frame-cassette wouldn’t be any closer. unless, the axle spacing was all wrong.

I’d taken the OP to mean that the tyre had worn the frame… might be wrong.

    What brand were the wheels?

If these are recent high-end Shimano hubs, the end cap is fixed on the right, threaded on the left, like a Record hub. It’s impossible to unthread by hand.

How did you fit the wheels in the rear triangle given the axle was too long? Did you have to spring the drop-outs apart to get it in there?

    It’s a very strange issue!

The problem is you won’t get

The problem is you won’t get something a lot better for £3 grand. Anything that is a massive improvement will cost £8-£10 grand.

Give your bike a makeover: Strip back to the frame, replace all consumables, reassemble, ride it more. Or have the luxury of getting your LBS to do it for you.

Still sorry I sold my ‘scruffy’ Canyon…

FYI – The Canyon VCLS seat posts are actually made by Ergon. Theoretically you could add it to any bike that has a round seat post in the correct diameter.

I’ve got one on my Cinelli.

Is it definitely the cranks? I’ve never had it but I’ve read a few accounts of how crank-like creaks were finally traced to rear wheel skewers… seems odd but might be worth 30 seconds of your time to check/grease yours.

The creaks I had on my Colnago turned out to be the titanium skewers I’d added in. They don’t grip the drop outs tightly enough. Replace them with proper internal-cam skewers. Noise all gone!

The other time it turned out to be loose chainring bolts. And another time the saddle squeaking on the rails. Hunt around!

    Download the parts diagram

Download the parts diagram from the manufacturers website. Identify the part number. Google the part number.

If it’s Shimano, try leaving out the ‘Y’ if it doesn’t come up first off.

Also try Ebay searching ‘Worldwide’. Someone will have them.

    If you’re anything like me,

If you’re anything like me, you probably hurt your lower back somewhere, stretching, twisting or leaning, but it’s come out in your hip. And again, if you’re like me, cycling is actually going to help keep you moving and will help to fix it. Try paracetamol and keep moving.

If pain persists etc. see your doctor.

    Yes, sometimes it’s like that

Yes, sometimes it’s like that. If I’m having one of those days – every pedestrian crossing goes to red – it’s time to kick back and dawdle along, get yourself behind someone steady (I’m riding in city traffic) and relax. The last thing you want is to let it affect your own behaviour. Some days just don’t work out.

Agree with the above. You can

Agree with the above. You can’t make a ‘too big’ frame smaller, but you can push the seat back and add a longer stem on a smaller bike. And that looks way more pro than a seat forward and short stem 😉
