Cycliq Fly 6CE on the back
Cycliq Fly 6CE on the back works well. No issues with water ingress given a little care on replacing the rubber cover. Winter ride with mudguards also avoids that.

Did have an issue with not recording but a format SD card solved that. Like all cameras the SD card write speed is key so cards for high definition recording only.

If I have to find a fault it is the tools for processing the video. The long press on a button will lock the clip so is important, however hard to reach meaning a stop to do that.

So better button options are required for a continuous ride. Shimano DI2 provides that but the integration with Cycliq isn’t available. The Shimano wireless for DI2 provides button configuration but Garmin Edge won’t tell Cycliq Light anything but the light settings!

Having got home and connected to a computer the locked clips are easy to find. However video editing software is required to cut out the specific section. That’s not possible with the Cycliq software sadly. Many editors will recompress the chosen section which is bad because it is no longer the original record. Of course the original can be supplied if a court requires it but it’s more faff.

Otherwise battery life is good for many hours, and image quality sufficient.

    Surely both your camera and
Surely both your camera and cycle computer have time by frame or second so that it is trivial to show what speed you had at that moment.

It’s a matter of risk and
It’s a matter of risk and trust. New products have fitness for purpose standards plus retail standards providing low risk at high cost. Second hand from the trade means no manufacturers warranty but some duty of care and retail standards to offset a lower cost. Few workshops have access to non-restrictive testing of structural components, but the best do. Private sales on eBay have some terms and conditions but no requirement for meaningful quality control. As stated, many people have harmless reasons to sell, so it comes down to what risk you want to take and what knowledge or access to knowledge you have. I only sell what is as new and has been checked by competent engineers so that I’m willing to ride it myself. Not virtue signalling, just ensures I have no doubt or concerns, so selfish really.
In summary, I’d advise taking your most knowledgeable friend to inspect the potential purchase, whilst you talk to the seller and decide how much you can trust them.
    Stay Safe.

    “Genuine question though, is
“Genuine question though, is there a point to having cameras? ”
I believe that you covered it, with the lack of automation meaning that the user has to a. Be able to press the save button, b. Be able to extract the police guidance compliant clip, c. Be lucky enough to live in an area where the CPO or Commissioner takes road crime seriously, d. Be willing to escalate to their Member of Parliament or County Councillor responsible for Highways.
So that’s a fair amount of time and effort to conduct the democratic process.
If that’s an unreasonable effort to go about your lawful business on the public roads, you might consider how to appear an equal hazard to the motoring public so that they do give you due care and attention….

As someone who cycles only to
As someone who cycles only to take responsibility for my long term health and not burden the NHS with my long term care for for cardiac disease, I totally do not accept that is some frivolous recreation that should not impair the important motor vehicle travel going on around me. I absolutely do pay for road maintenance through taxation, though a bicycle clearly does little damage to the road. Every motor vehicle user has a legal and insurance contractual obligation to drive with due care and attention, including not to endanger vulnerable road users (Highway Code/Law) and is supposed to have met a minimum standard of competence. Since I’m a driver (IAM) and qualified Pilot, I know that safety is possible, we just have chosen not to bother.
The sooner we get humans out of controlling motor vehicles the better.
Better safety, better sustainability, better use of scarce resources, and better air to breathe.
