At least 10-20% of the value

At least 10-20% of the value of the bike.

A good lock will last for years, and then become the accessory lock/leave at work as you buy bigger to deter the latest level of scrote.

Security skewers are great.  I’m going to splurge on HexLox for the new build.  And am considering a Pragamasis 16mm chain for a leave at work lock.

    Self heating toe warmers, 5

Self heating toe warmers, 5 for £4 in Tesco, keeps my feet toasty on the freezing commute, especially the waiting for the train bit, and once cold mine don’t warm up enough when riding.

High merino blend thick socks and Odour Eater thermal insoles.

Thanks SimonE for the crisp packet thing, kitchen aluminium foil just fell to bits in my shoes.

I think I bruised my coccyx

I think I bruised my coccyx sometime late last year, I guessing on the bike, it has taken months to get less painful, getting there.  Sitting down much more carefully now, mostly at work, seem to be hard chairs.

    Earlier this evening, as I

Earlier this evening, as I was crossing the Caversham bridge, whilst on the bollard protected cycle route, I saw a small red 4×4 coming the other way, in the middle lane, who had no lights on, not even day light running lights, bit of an older car.  He appeared to be lighting up what I took to be a cigarette.  I think he put his headlights on when I mentioned it to him.  It was not an Audi and no one got hurt.

I got me a Respro City

I got me a Respro City reflect just after the Buncefield fire, had to cycle to the train station hard, that night after, the smoke had dropped and I could not breathe.  Chipped the next day off, got the mask on my way into work the next day.  It was very hot and sweaty and I couldn’t drink or spit, it also rubbed my nose raw and it makes breathing difficult.

Upgraded to the techno filter and valves at some point, and on hearing Carol the weather woman tell us it was a big polluting day, I wore it to work.  Still had all of the bad things.  Haven’t used it since.  Probably does’t work with facial hair, as I know that PPE masks at work don’t.  If I was proper filthy city cycling I might go and find it and occasionally shave, but I doubt it.

10 or 12mph, they generally assume we cannot manage more than walking pace as that was the speed they managed when they last rode a bicycle, when they were a child.

Their commute is, according to Google Maps, about 0.4 miles – less than half a mile – to an infant/junior school (some sort of teaching assistant, apparently).

How do you possibly overcome that sort of mentality?

Latest outrage…kids in our street  were being ferried door to door in cars last night…to go trick or treating!

I was riding through a housing estate last night, bit of a rat run of course, pavements crowded with children trick or treating, the speed and impatience of some of the motorists was quite shocking.  Those haloween costumes very rarely feature Hi Viz and sweeted up children can be quite exciteable.
