ianrobo wrote:good question on weight but Porte in Paris to Nice looked very thin and thinner than before.OK – but to go back to the original point; do you really think that there is something deeply suspicious about a modern, climbing oriented (normally shorter) professional rider, who is local to the climb and can pick when he rides, possibly starting from further down the road and weighing (as near as I can find out) about 10kg less actually going about 65 seconds than Armstrong did in 1999 (when power was, briefly, going down) ?

Maybe, maybe not, there’s clearly still doping going on – any particular example… person, climber, sprinter ?
That said, as you know, it’s not all about raw power output, particularly climbing – how much weight would Armstrong (in 1999) give away to Porte just before the Tour in 2014 do you reckon ?
Edit : BTW, I assume these times are taken from the same place. LA apparently started his timing from a supermarket on the way out of Menton, whilst Sky (not necessarily Richie) start a bit further down the road by the bus stop.

What – that he beat Chris Froome by abut 1.5% or Lance by about 3% ?

FWIW i’m using a Bryton Rider
FWIW i’m using a Bryton Rider 35 with the same speed/cadence sensor – had it a couple of years now, works OK for me once the sensor is registering both magnets (something it seems to be getting more twitchy about as time goes on, even with a new battery).Don’t know enough about the head unit internals to comment on whether that’s relevant or not, but both are spec’d to support the ANT+ combined speed/cadence profile so i’d hope both should work in theory.
Sorry can’t be more help.

I find those two things are usually attributed to people who make judgements on people they’ve never met, on an Internet forum. Ohhhhhhhh you are the epitome of irony.
You actually said that, didn’t you ? To someone else ? That’s genius – a sort of irony mobius strip….

markdown has some nice features but given all the low hanging fruit and more is already covered it’s probably not high on the list of pressing development issues 😉

The Mio fuse looks like a great idea but my god, why is it so bloody expensive? If a normal chest HR strap is 30 quid, why can’t someone make a wrist/arm one for that money?Just put some water on the contact points before you or it on and it will work from the start IME, no need to wait until you are providing your own conducting liquid…
This, IME. I just lick my thumb and rub it across the contact areas, seems to work fine from the get-go. I tend to get the other problem where the readings can start to go a bit bananas if there’s too much conductive fluid around….

It involves passing them, then usually getting some obnoxious comment as you pass them. Then slow down and let them pass ( usually another knob comment as they do). Then catch them, and pass really close. Then repeat until they bugger off / give up.Wow, just wow…. and you still call people ‘wankers’ who might, for whatever reason, be wearing some team kit without any sense of irony ?

It would be really helpful if people could mention whether they’ve used the cage they are recommending with the new style podium (the one pictured) as some people have, just so I know if it’s a general or specific recommendation. Ta :)Apologies – meant to include that. The Elite Pria Pave haven’t been tested with the new Camel bottles although one would hope they would be a decent bet due to the ability to crank them down on any bottle (but you never know…).

Thank you, but that might have been levermonkey that suggested that 🙂 Rollers are a good call, but it does depend to some extent what sort of training you want to do. I love them, and they really do help with balance, control, core strength and smoothness IME – even after short periods. As also mentioned, they are also ridiculously convenient to use and pack away. Marvellous. However… if you like to completely relax during sessions then that’s going to take a bit of time, and if you’re doing a lot of sprint training then I hope you’re a lot better on them than me (being better at sprinting than me probably won’t tax most people).
I have both because I like to do different things for which one is not suited, but the other is, but clearly that’s not for everyone – but I think you have to go quite a way to beat rollers for price, performance, convenience and benefits. Just don’t let your mind wonder…. ever 😉

ianrobo wrote:Thing is with this if this was happened at say Astana or another foreign team would people still be putting up the same defence ?If that team had tried to take an explicit stance against doping such as Sky, and had been as open with the relevant authorities with their data and testing regimes then yes – I think most would, or should.
Sky have made mistakes, they’ve even admitted some of them, but they also seem to be one of the teams that are at least trying to do something decent. Their racing may be have been dull as dish-water for long periods of time but I have quite a bit of time for their regulatory behaviour. Brailsford seems to rub some folk up the wrong way but that in itself doesn’t make them guilty of anything.
