‘Let more children play safely in the street please’
Cllr Katie Collier will put forward a motion she hopes can improve play for children in Worcester at Tuesday’s full city council meeting.
The Green Party city councillor wants to enable more outdoor play, including closing some streets to through traffic temporarily.
“We do too much to make children feel unwelcome where they live- no ball game signs, making it hard for them to play out, prioritising cars over humans and we need to do all we can to reverse that.”

Woman, 102, says Southrepps traffic has ‘trapped’ her
She said: “As soon as I put my foot out the front door, there they are. I just live in bedlam and it’s really dreadful.
“I can’t even get across the road and get to the shop opposite me. I’ve had to have three new front doors because of the vibrations caused by the traffic and the lorries that pass through.

The blue car looks like it’s been written off – crashing, along with divorce and moving house always seems like a rich man’s pursuit to me.

The reason for the absence of town centre Sunday parking charges and restrictions is that until the 1990s, the shops weren’t open, there was very little reason to visit your average Somerset town. It’s a £730k historic quirk .
Sunday parking charges would ‘irrevocably damage’ town centres, church leader says
“I am hugely concerned that these costs will prove prohibitive’

I’m old enough to remember this, and as a child it was dead boring in winter.

Ah, the twice daily hell-fest of the so-called school run. Bit of a long read, this one and the video is a bit of a plodder too.
Residents ‘sworn at’ on Cambs street blighted by school drop off parking
One resident said they have been ‘shouted and sworn at’ when trying to get home during peak school drop off times
Cllr Antunes has come up with a proposal that would potentially see parking increased in the school vicinity. He suggests adding more spaces into the car park opposite One Stop by removing some hedgerows and a clothes bin, which he suggested could be moved somewhere else.

edit – Google Maps view of Cargate Way attached and I’ve marked the site Cllr Antunes’s solution to all this. How many car parking spaces you need here??

This would be that rather quaint old practice of putting pipes under the road. And the equally quaint notions of maintaining them and providing an important public service.

Two Cambridgeshire areas to
Two Cambridgeshire areas to get free parking as £1.2million allocated
The mayor promised to introduce free parking in one area of Cambridgeshire as part of his manifesto, claiming it would improve footfall in the [Peterborough] city centre
[The Leader of Peterborough Council] added: “We would also want part of this funding to be used for the Tiger bus pass, which allows heavily subsidised bus journeys for under 25s. This would eliminate the need for a car to come into the city at all and would help our youngest residents get to school, college and work.”
https://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/news/local-news/two-cambridgeshire-areas-free-parking-32909374
So we’ve met Paul Bristow before and the good news here is that for a change the cost of subsidising drivers is laid bare – he’s proposing, against all other budget priorities, to throw council tax payer money at providing free parking.
