Aren’t 4*4 supposed to go off road?

yes – as I often reflect when I meet one out of my country lanes and their idea of courtesy is to stop, effectively blocking the road.  “you’re the off- roader, do some off-roading”

Bit of a long read this, but it seems like these parking restrictions have been subject to death by consultation, i.e. listening to drivers.  Not sure what the consultation responses can have been –  “I want to carry on parking illegally on street corners”?

Torbay double yellows ‘barely the length of a car’ slammed

“Did you run out of paint?”

He pointed out that there had been no recorded crashes at the Marldon Road junctions.

The Cabinet Member for Pride in Place, which includes Transport told DevonLive the previous council administration did not prioritise road safety markings. “As a result the council had no in-house line painting resource and this meant that existing road safety markings declined in condition and very few new road safety markings were able to be progressed,” he added.

    No, Prime Minister/

No, Prime Minister/ Chancellor, regulation isn’t why the economy isn’t growing. Have another try.

You supposedly represent working people – regulation helps keep those people safe: safe from unscrupulous employers, food suppliers and landlords. Doing regulation in a large geographic bloc promotes consistency across the area and protects businesses from being undercut by chancers.

A safety culture in oh I don’t know rail and air transport means passengers and staff aren’t being killed or going to hospital every day – compare and contrast the “anything goes” attitude we have on the roads.

I kind of get it about NHS England : if you’re running a hospital, you are indeed answerable to the usual range of statutory agencies – e.g. HMRC, HSE who require information and often time from you. You’re also dealing with unions and Royal Colleges, tribunals, the media, the courts, the local authority, insurance companies.

All that’s before you get started on sector specialists like NHS England, ICBs, the CQC.  It’s big, expensive, complex, politically controversial and risky. It’s dealing with a currently ageing population and the consequences of public health that is once again deteriorating.

    ‘Ridiculous’ Oxford car park

‘Ridiculous’ Oxford car park charges to increase from April

Graham Jones of ROX Backing Oxford Businesses said: “Parking charges are already ridiculously high – only the wealthy can really afford to park in Oxford these days.

“To put them up even higher when previously busy car parks are already sitting near empty, is ridiculous.

“But I think that’s what city councillors want. They want to see Oxford empty and people coming in by bus.”

Drivers go on repeating “the Council are hell-bent on destruction” line. Cars are only for the wealthy, are they, Graham?  you’re this close to getting it.

    Colchester speed bumps

Colchester speed bumps installed ‘too high’ by council

Traffic is almost being brought to a standstill because of the size of the speed humps which are 20mm too high.

They are forcing drivers to slow right down out of fear the bumps will damage the underside of their vehicles.

“I would advise people to be careful until they come out to fix the issue and it’s a shame it isn’t going to be sorted until next month.

    https://www.gazette-news.co.uk/news/25009814.colchester-speed-bumps-installed-too-high-council/

And when it’s fixed, drivers won’t have to be careful any more. Happy days!

    yes, poor political prisoner TYL

If you were unsure about Cox, then you should be very sure now

I think I’ve heard before, the phrase “I’m quitting Reform and will discuss the reasons why in due course” – either due course never comes, or it does, but no-one cares.

Reform still have the same 2024 “contract” on their website, so here’s a reminder of the bit on transport – would love know where safety is deemed “critical” and where it is not:

    Stop the War on Drivers

Legislate to ban ULEZ Clean Air Zones and Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. Scrapping Net Zero means no more bans on petrol and diesel cars and no legal requirements for manufacturers to sell electric cars.

We will keep the speed limit low where safety is critical. Otherwise, 20 MPH zones will be scrapped.

The scene 100 years ago.  The rise of mass motoring occupies the same time frame as the decline of the British seaside resort.

Having done a virtual drive along the Esplanade, the shorter spaces seem to be those around the Vue Cinema (formerly the Novelty Rock Emporium).  I could see an X5 and an Évoque parked OK at the southern end, nearer to Harbour Light.

The Sunday roasts start at £20 a head at Harbour Light, so the initial £25 PCN sounds to me like something Phil should have should put down to experience, rather than allow to spoil his day.
