Some diary dates for you here
Some diary dates for you here – you might want to avoid getting ill, injured or old around these times.
Consultants and trainees coming out on the same days has been a prospect for a while now – last quote I saw was NHS managers would be “staring into the abysss” in this scenario.

Jimmy Ray Will wrote:The challenge with Exeter, and many other old cities is that the available infrastructure and geography are severely limiting when it comes to effective transport options. There are minimal train services, and the road network is frankly awful. That is important, as anyone looking to use public transport is just opening themselves up to the same queues they experience in their cars, but now crammed in to a bus with yoofs and other undesirables.
So I totally get why those reliant on the motor car, who have spent literally years in traffic jams, and taken the time to find all the rat runs, are less than enamered at losing some of their key routes.
To many, LTN’s simple make life harder, they penalise the masses for the benefits of the few. Unless that viewpoint is understood by those implementing LTN’s and managed properly… rather than just shouting down / ignoring… opinions will not change.
minimal train services in Exeter update. What could be making the buses so slow and infrequent?

Driver skills
Driver skills
1.01 – Do you really need to drive?
This introductory module reviews a range of scenarios through which appropriate car use is evaluated. Through role play, students learn to challenge existing assumptions about what constitutes sensible use of a car. The module is intended to provide a solid base for subsequent course segments. Outcomes provide tutors with an initial view of the extent of car-brain in a new intake.
1.02 – Are you a twat?
This challenging module addresses students’ self-awareness and critical thinking skills. A self-diagnostic is used to provide insight into matters such as personal values, empathy and compassion, decision-making and situational awareness. The self-assessments are discussed in seminar and one to one settings and provide tutors with a guide to approaching teaching in later modules and leads to some streaming of students
1.03 A You are a twat
This additional module is taken by students assessed in 1.02 as being either a bit of a twat, likely to become a twat or a complete twat. It comprises an in-depth look at the likely effects on individuals of being any sort of twat on their driving, including likely vehicle choice, car usage, attitudes to driving skills development and safety.
1.03 B Do you want to cycle? Or maybe take the bus?
Taken by students who are assessed as not being a twat, this module further examines the transport choices available. Students conduct individual research on the benefits to themselves and to wider society of cycling and public transport use.1.04 Strategies for reconciliation (plenary)
Twatiness scores are shared. The module explores potential approaches to how leaders can function effectively with the range of twatiness scores evident. A moderated debate is held to enable twats and non-twats to explore their differences.

Parents fear ‘chaotic’ traffic outside Essex school is ‘accident waiting to happen’
The path directly in front of the school is also very narrow and cars drive fast and often mount the kerb to pass other cars. Vehicles already park all over the pavements and this will only increase if the size of the school increases.”
In response, the school has said it has been updating the travel plan to include initiatives such as Walk to School Week, pedestrian skills training and cycle training for pupils. A request has also been made to Essex County Council’s School Crossing Patrol Service for a suitability assessment for a crossing patrol near to the school site.
Essex County Council has acknowledged that these are “legitimate concerns” and that Bentley Primary is unusual in that it is located directly adjacent to a railway station and level crossing and near to a small supermarket, which add to traffic congestion at various times of the day.

2000 posts Wow! Please keep
2000 posts Wow! Please keep those stories coming.
The brief is quite narrow, and nine out of 10 stories we see follow a similar pattern – the one in 10 is where a driver manages to do something extraordinary.
Although we tend to feature stories where there is no serious injury, I’m getting to the “small wonder, eh?” stage when it comes to the ever-present “thank goodness no-one was standing/walking there”. A world that no longer feels safe.
Local journalism is under such terrible pressure in the C21st – I hope it has found a level now that will keep it going – else what record will there be of these goings-on? So in general, I’m grateful to local journalists. I have a soft spot for the nonsense that comes out when nothing is happening on a Tuesday morning in Somerset.
I sometimes include the “there were and sirens everywhere, it was chaos” comments the articles pick up from bystanders and social media. The 999 call that starts “There’s been a crash near the chip shop on the London road” needs so much unpicking before you can mobilise any resources. That’s again in part why we need local journalists.
The ennui – most people are thoroughly conditioned to accepting the daily carnage on our roads – so long as it happens to someone else, of course. Somehow it’s all a price worth paying for all the amazing advantages cars may once upon a time have brought those able to run one. But that’s another story.

Gosh, Freedom Day. This could very easily be the scene if Mr Bucknell and co mix their drinks.
Not sure how we got from “old-fashioned knees-up” to Oktoberfest (and gin) but hey, hands across the water and all that.
Fancy dress “actively encouraged” – win a prize* – suggestions? Prison suit (ball & chain optional), YMCA construction guy? (” Did someome say ‘pot-hole?’ ” – also optional).
Drivers : fix our road / GCC : *fixes road* / Drivers : not like that!

A couple of people have
A couple of people have suggested that your driver assailant was in some kind of privileged position organisationally.
Perhaps, but I don’t see conclusive evidence of that from what’s been described – simply, I think it’s (I) that he’s a driver (motornormativity) and that (ii) you (as a victim) are the one seen as “making a fuss, creating problems” that no-one else wants to be bothered with.
Is it one organisation, your science park, or several? Is the site management separate? I think if it’s been dealt with across different orgs, it may make a difference. Clearly someone has decided to close the problem down with the cycling ban.
Employee Relations can become a massive drain on time and energy. It can be hard to spot with differing accounts of an incident who truly is the victim and who is the perpetrator, as you’ve already seen from Mr “What Did I Do Wrong?” – bullies are very good at this stuff, they get a lot of practice.
They’ve got this badly wrong, although I’m not clear what you were hoping might happen. How the heck do they think you are feeling now??
Take care not to leave in a huff – other interviewers may pick up on it. If you are decided to leave, then do so for positive reasons (bias – I don’t want you to reward a bully driver’s bad behaviour or disadvantage yourself – he’ll do it again) and put this episode behind you.
Will you be able to cycle to another place? Don’t let him take that away.

Residents in Hempsted have been trapped by works on Secunda Way
To mark the moment of freedom, people in Hempsted are being invited to leave their homes and take part in their own Oktoberfest.
After their first week of restricted nighttime movements, residents in the area are banding together for an Oktoberfest beer and gin evening when the roadworks come to an end, dubbed “Hempsted’s very own End of Roadworks Party.” With 1l stein glasses of beer and bratwurst, the area’s residents will be celebrating with an old-fashioned knees up.

Forces have resources to meet
Forces have resources to meet police investigations pledge, says Braverman
The Home Secretary has implored officers to act on leads for phone or car theft, shoplifting and criminal damage.
So we can expect those self-styled vigilantes (i.e. actual vigilantes, as in administering their own punishments/remedies) responsible to be found and brought to justice for this criminal damage. “But the Tories made me do it, your honour.”
Maybe it’s the London bubble effect, but it was noticeable in the 2021 petrol strikes that it was, of all the areas affected, London and the south-east with the most extensive rail (and tube) network, where driver hysteria seemed to be worst.
