Which cars can actually fit a road bike in the boot? (Crowdsourced project)

One of things that always been most frustrating for me when trying to find a car to buy as a cyclist is figuring out whether my bike fits inside (with the seats down) without taking the bike apart.

There tend to be lots of comments of the type – “why don’t you just take a wheel off”, or “why don’t you just use a bike rack”, but I find it way more convenient to do neither of these things, and just put the bike in the back.

To try to meet this need not just for me, but for other people too, I’ve built a simple community-driven website where people can share cars they own (or have used) and whether a road bike fits (with the wheels on).

    Here’s the link: https://norackneeded.co.uk/

I’ve put in examples of cars I know about but it really depends on other people putting ones in too for it to be more useful. If you’ve ever got your bike in a car in one piece (or have found you can’t!) I’d love if you could add your car + whether it fits.

Hopefully it’ll save people a loads of time when buying their next car.

    Thanks!

    Chris.

I went on a ride recently with a friend where we had to drive to the start. We got both bikes in the back of my 2011 Toyota Avensis Estate without having to take any wheels (or anything else) off

My Toyota Proace City 2021 is a Berlingo by another name, let’s call it Stellantis, shall we?. Yes a bike will fit inside, at least both mine do (Giant Revolt + The Light Blue Wolfson). Either  will fit fully assembled fore & aft, secured to the side of the van with a single (padded) ratchet strap. It’s tight however and longer bikes may need to go in on the diagonal, still upright but using two (padded) ratchet straps mounted to the tie downs.

Does a bike fit (assembled) in the back of a Citroen Berlingo? (And, whether it does or not, which year of Berlingo?)

    I’ve never tried the boot

I’ve never tried the boot alone (I think I could if I took both wheels off) but in my older style Yaris (2008) with seats folded down I get two bikes (out of road, gravel or TT) in the back with their front wheels off.

The home page claims “Real boot dimensions and car boot sizes from UK cyclists”, but I did not find any way to add boot dimensions or size, only whether or not a bicycle fits.

I can get my bike in the back
I can get my bike in the back of my Toyota Verso with the seats down, no need to remove a wheel. I don’t usually because I have a rack for the back of the car which I use, but the option is there.
