A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Council finally back down on
Council finally back down on a parking fine – and thank the complainant. Apparently this is all because although someone parked on a street a private company had opened a nearby car park and people couldn’t figure out which machine the “pay at meter” sign was referring to ??
(I hesitate to suggest it’s on the drivers to work these things out … apparently this one has been raging on for a month or more – is that right?)

You would hope that it’s dealt with as driving without a licence and insurance with fines and points on the provisional licence. The article says that he could get 6 points for each offence (and he’s been caught twice for two offences). Does that mean that he’ll get 24 points on his provisional licence and be disqualified? In which case, I’m sure that that will have a huge impact as he’ll never drive while disqualified….. Oh wait, hardship! They can’t take away his licence as it will cause him unfair hardship

Police seize learner driver’s
Police seize learner driver’s car twice in one dayIt’s just another sign of the war on motorists. You can’t even learn to drive without the police taking your car away, twice!

Talking about road closures
Talking about road closures here’s one in Cheltenham. Reading the headline it looks like the road is closed to construct the cycle path but closer inpection reveals the real reason is to reinforce the bridge on the route. I doubt it needs reinforcing for bikes and pedestrians. Naturally nearly everyone you talk to is anti cycle path because of the closure.
There were also traffic restrictions for subsidence on the road which the council claimed had to be fixed before the cycle path could be built.

and you missed the local car
and you missed the local car park for local people to go for a walk bit 😀
every house round that immediate area has off road parking, the only people needing more parking are the 3,4,5 car families, who appear to be using the old swimming pool car park for their parking needs on google view, obviously the library next door just looked like the overflow part

The Parking (Code of Practice) Act 2019, was enacted in March 2019 yet no aspects of the Bill (you do mean Act, right?) have been implemented since Royal Assent.
[…]
However, following a legal challenge from the private parking industry, the incoming rules were withdrawn in June 2022 with no government action since. In the meantime, the private parking sector have implemented their own code of practice, which The AA does not endorse.

What I am confused about is whether it’s a nanny state who should leave law-abiding drivers alone, or that the state should get itself involved in private matters such as this.
It also seems a bit of stretch to accuse the govt of inaction on this operator Code of Practice they are hankering after.
