A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Their names come from What

Their names come from What Three Words.

If you’re ever snowed in, there’s another lockdown or you’re hating your job, look up the proceedings of the Verderers’ Court. What to expect: “6 pony deaths and 3 injuries on the roads this month, oh well never mind” followed by “oh my god there was a cyclist, the other day and I’m sure he was cycling off trail and something should be done it’s the destruction of nature”

It’s these feral young males who think they can just claim public space who are causing so many of society’s ills.

Look at that one pulling a wheelie (is this right?) with no respect or concern for others’ safety!

Warning as frisky New Forest stallions released

This is a new problem for drivers…

The BBC wrote:
Motorists are being urged to be on their guard, plan their route and expect large herds of ponies that are likely to be “flighty and defensive”.

I think that we all know the solution to this. We are talking about ancient traditions of free access here and modern convenience shouldn’t stand in the way. Yes, we should ban the ponies from the forest! Roaming where they like and on roads, roads which are there for cars, not these sexed up ponies.

clearly a change in the law merited, with this abysmal safety record (7 deaths of members of the public on mainline rail in 2023/4)

1. Ten Minute Rule Motion: A34 slip road safety (East Ilsley and Beedon)

Up to 20 minutes (Standing Order No. 23)

Olivia Bailey

That leave be given to bring in a Bill to provide for a review of the safety of the A34 slip roads at East Ilsley and Beedon; and to require the publication of plans to address any deficiencies in safety identified by that review.

Sure – I’ve been through both

Sure – I’ve been through both those junctions many times, and neither is pleasant. It’s just the automatic assumption that ‘more road’ must be the answer, instead of, say, lower speeds, or other types of re-engineering.

The Beedon one is actually pretty long already – it’s just that it’s below the level of the A34, with a bunch of shrubbery in the way, which rather hinders the view of approaching traffic.

To be fair… I know that

To be fair… I know that junction well as I use it on the way to my office.  It is horrid; poorly sighted due to its layout, making it hard to judge in the mirror whats approaching on the 70mph dual carriageway.  You need a fast-accelerating car to get up to speed if you’ve had to stop, which you often will at busy times.

Ipswich resident annoyed car park sign at Broomhill Library

He believes that there is not enough residential parking space in the area, hence many residents understood that they could use this car park, especially in case they had guests over.

Mr Vincent said he did not like that the new sign was added without consultation with residents.

Colchester Council respond to litter wardens in car parks

Colchester resident Sebastian Thornton, 56, said he is against littering, but is also against litter wardens targeting privately owned car parks. Mr Thornton said his main issue was the fact the two locations had no signage to warn against littering unlike other council car parks, making the situation “unfair”.kissMr Thornton has taken photos and videos of litter wardens outside McDonalds in both Cowdray Avenue and at Stadium Junction issuing fines for people littering what he said was “a very small amount”.

He said: “I think that is a bit humiliating to be forced to pick it up – what is strange is McDonalds [have told me] they do not agree with it and are not affiliated.

https://www.nbcwashington.com/news/local/laurel-police-arrest-woman-for-driving-through-main-street-festival/3911062/

Laurel police say they stopped a woman as she purposely drove on a closed road through crowds of people getting ready for the start of the Main Street Festival.

Officials told News4 no festival goers were hurt. An officer had minor injuries but is expected to be okay.

Police say The woman, 28-year-old Kai DeBerry-Bostick, was warned multiple times not to drive through closed roads, but she ignored their commands, police said.

Her car was parked within the perimeter of the festival and she insisted she had to get out to go to work.

Officials released body worn camera video showing the officer’s interaction with the woman before she pulled down the yellow tape and took off.

An officer could be heard offering to call her a taxi before she started driving. As she drove, an officer could be heard repeatedly shouting, “Stop” and “Get out of the car.”

Another video shot by a vendor at the festival showed how the incident ended: police pulled DeBerry-Bostick out of her car and leading her away in handcuffs
