A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Don’t joke, I’m surrounded by this damn stuff and the flipping idiots who genuinely believe building a bypass will “solve” all their traffic problems. This MP, who doesn’t live in the town, voted against building a bypass back when he was a county councillor.

Didn’t know Auto Express had
Didn’t know Auto Express had a Thought for the Day slot.
“And as I, a weary traveller, entered Chievely Services the other Saturday morning, I thought there was something spiritual about the place, the light streaming in, it was full of joy; the careful arrangement of Leon, KFC, Waitrose and a man selling mobile phone covers, the constant to-ing and fro-ing to the toilets, and the gambling machines, reminiscent of a quiet side chapel, the display of leaflets for tourist attractions 30 or 40 miles away. The lemur on the front of the Whipsnade Zoo leaflet struck an almost primal urge in me to drive on as my daughter was expecting me by 12.”

The splendid Dr Hannah Fry
The splendid Dr Hannah Fry explaining how using fluid dynamics can cool down a car in seconds instead of sitting in it sweltering for five minutes running the engine to get the aircon to cool it down (and responding with surprise and sometimes threats of violence to any passing cyclist who may request that the engine be turned off).

Save money by not having speed limit signs but keep the speed limits and increase the number of cameras. It would pay for itself in no time and save loads of money.
You mean ruin your clutch and gears while making still more pollution than before, dozing off because it’s all so boring AND get 3 points and fine? Wicked, wicked poster.

Ashford Borough Council hits
Ashford Borough Council hits back after āwidespreadā traffic warden abuse on social media
It comes after the workers were described as āb*****dsā and ādisgusting peopleā in two now-deleted posts on a Facebook group called Ashford Kent Read All About It.
Although the story of the apologetic driver doesn’t quite add up (parked for 30s – e.g. can they really do you that quickly?)

“News” from the BBC (in the BBC verify live section):
BBC wrote:Turning away from our main story for a moment and weāve had new figures which show that three-quarters of cars speed in 20mph zones in England when thereās nothing on the road to slow them down.Policies to restrict vehicle speeds to 20mph are widespread in England and the rest of the UK,, external and safety campaigners say these limits are associated with reduced road casualties and fatalities.
Shocked, I tell you!
Obviously we need to keep monitoring / reporting and I guess it’s good the Beeb are even reporting it? Albeit BBC verify so perhaps someone passed it on as “fake news”?

Why should they walk a mile in other people’s shoes, when those people are so disinclined to walk (say) a few hundred yards that they’re happy to “trap others in their homes”?
OTOH perhaps this is a new version of the classic verse “But I say to you, do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone parks on your driveway, offer to him your garden also”?

I don’t think I could enjoy
I don’t think I could enjoy my day out if I had left a car somewhere like this. I guess these people are a lot tougher than me. I am curious about why this keeps on happening in B’mouth and whether the motivation is to get away for the day from some hot, car-ey housing estate.

Calls for clamping on road where strangers park on driveways
However, Reverend David Southall, who lives on the road, wrote a letter in which he said: “There are more important things in the world than someone parking across my drive for 10 minutes to pick up their children.
“Yes, we should encourage walking to school as an option but we are in a car culture.
