A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

Locals ‘incandescent’ about buses using side streets

The worst part? They might have to park a bit further away.
Try to stop people using the side streets as a cut through in their cars, though, and people will be up in arms about that.pockstone
So, ‘Give way to oncoming
So, ‘Give way to oncoming vehicles’ actually means ‘Don’t give way to oncoming vehicles. Expect them to stop and plough on through regardless.’
If the rules on the newbankgyratory dictate that whosoever gets to the line first just sails over a giveway line, then I’ll avoid it.
That’s not how the rules of the road actually work.

An entirely cost free
An entirely cost free solution to lowering speed limits across the country is based on the fact that the signs do not specify what units they use. Simply change them all to km/h and you’ve made the roads safer and reduced pollution at zero cost.newbankgyratory
Come off it. In all three
Come off it. In all three cases the oncoming vehicles were closer to the constriction than you were on your bicycle. Yes, the signage says people from your direction have priority, you should have anticipated that they were going to get there first, and then stopped to let them get past – you’d probably get at least one cheery thank-you wave.
The instance where you attempted to squeeze past three oncoming vehicles – sheer bloody-mindedness on your part – you put yourself in danger and broke someones side-mirror. Disgraceful.

Well that would explain these then.

PS these aren’t the only times it has happened but the two upride videos are the only ones the police have taken action on.

Are you getting the same double posting effect I keep getting? There is a comment delete function, but it seems to cause the whole thread to go off line for a few seconds and you have to go in via a new window.

Taxi drivers warned of cyclist scam demanding money over false phone use claims after video emerges
Speaking to The Standard, Mr McNamara said the tactic used by the cyclist is becoming more common and warned those visiting the capital of “another scam”, alongside the likes of phone snatching and overpriced pedicabs.
how has the cyclist’s footage ended up on the internet?
edit – Rendel says
“Checked out the @hanadhendrix account on Twitter from which this video emanates, it’s basically a total spoof from a wannabe comedian who advertises his videos as “Watch me pretend to be CyclingMikey!” Not surprised that the viciously anti-cyclist LTDA tried to portray it as something that cyclists were actually doing; a bit disappointed that road.ccdidn’t do a brief investigation which would’ve proved that it’s bollocks.”
(See also https://www.tiktok.com/@hanadhendrix – the story is still there on the Evening Standard site)

The episode seems mighty
The episode seems mighty fishy to me; even the Daily Mail’s write-up is hedging it.
Pedicabs aren’t taking journeys away from cabbies to any noticeable degree, are they?
Still, RCC have featured the story now, so we can all weigh in over there.
