Man grabbed driver by the throat in dispute over parking

The victim, in his 50s, was in his parked vehicle in the Sandbanks Ferry car park on Banks Road at around 12.10pm on March 14.

He became involved in an argument with another motorist over parking, who then grabbed him by the throat and took his mobile phone.

The phone was recovered by the victim and he did not sustain any serious injuries.

I’m going to take this as a good news story – not just a driver held to account but an actual sanction* applied to a powerful man.

    * If a weedy one e.g. only a year, plus “if you do it again and we can’t ignore it, we will tell you not to do it again, again”.  I guess he can afford to take taxis / hire a driver also?

    The Welsh roundabout exit

The Welsh roundabout exit which has cost thousands of drivers half a million pounds in just one year

Two reasons why this is a tax on the stupid….firstly, the road signs are clear both on the main approach to the roundabout and on the turn off itself. Anyone not knowing what the signs mean, should not be driving.

And secondly, anyone who eats at McDonalds thinking its food needs to be taxed more to help pay for the damage their poor health choices are doing to the NHS.

Some of the comments BTL…. blimey. And we share the roads with these people.

Edited to add….just checked Google maps…. the road lay out has been like that since the first photo they took back in…… 2009!  Almost 15 years ago and they still haven’t worked out what the signs mean. Really…..?

The Welsh roundabout exit which has cost thousands of drivers half a million pounds in just one year

The simply staggering figure is substantially more than all the other parking offence fines for an entire county put together

Another motorist agreed, writing: “This happened to me! Couldn’t believe it! It’s easy to see the signage once you realise, but there are so many signs around there.”

    Can you drink-drive at Brands

Can you drink-drive at Brands Hatch circuit? You can speed there, of course.

Between public Highway and entirely private land sits public land to which the public has access – like Asda car park. I know the police can and do take all sorts of action against the so-called car meets (I.e. organised mass trespass) in superstore car parks, for example.

I had thought that private land meant that it wouldn’t apply but now I’m very confused.

Yeah, I just copied/pasted that from a cursory search and didn’t dig any deeper, but it does appear that you’re correct – idling on private land isn’t illegal (according to at least a couple of websites).

Mystery as unattended car left running for eight hours in Asda car park Putting to one side the environmental impact, if the car had been like that for eight hours, was it really a police matter to come and break in to turn it off? https://www.cornwalllive.com/news/cornwall-news/mystery-unattended-car-left-running-9164263 It’s a mystery, it’s a mystery! I thought that Toyah would be more interesting than a photo of a car park

Under Section 42 of the Road Traffic Act 1988, engine idling is an offence. The Highway Code also has a rule against engine idling. Rule 123 states: “You MUST NOT leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running or leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road.

Interesting. But as it was in Asda’s car park, that wouldn’t apply

are you sure? I was under the impression that applied even on your own driveway. There are two statements in that clause

“You MUST NOT leave a parked vehicle unattended with the engine running” [no matter the location]

    “or”

“leave a vehicle engine running unnecessarily while that vehicle is stationary on a public road”.[even if it is attended]

For some reason a number of websites quote S42, but that doesn’t appear to apply https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1988/52/section/42
