A new catch-all Tea Shop thread for those miscellaneous new stories that don’t quite fit with parking, crashing into buildings or trapped/prisoners in their homes.

If only there weren’t pavements where the cars need to park, pavement parking wouldn’t be a problem

Yep saw it, and mentioned it earlier in the week, probably lost somewhere in the mess of threading. They made a YouTube video about it https://youtu.be/TvfHouMZd8U?si=fegmQ13TZY2s9nQ2
My thoughts, it doesn’t change how they treat close passes, this is just part of a two week national campaign against mobile phone use whilst driving https://www.norfolk.police.uk/news/norfolk/news/news/2024/february/norfolk-police-support-national-mobile-phone-campaign/
which is why i believe it has more than just the normal road team officers involved, once it ends its back to normal.
And Suffolk which uses the same road team officers, are supporting the same campaign, haven’t reported anything like the same operation has been happening, even though they could literally park the bus in the bus lane outside their own HQ and still catch as many offences, if not more.

‘I do not think I have ever gone through a red light in my life.’
Er… but she had no idea she had gone through the red light in question, either.
Let’s just hope she doesn’t resume driving after her 12-month ban.

Bat-wielding gang threaten
Bat-wielding gang threaten and racially abuse road workers in Gloucester
They arrived in a silver Audi, a white Volkswagen Caddy and a silver Volkswagen Golf, were wearing tracksuits and armed with bats.
A group of workers were at a road closure on Barnwood Road, with the junction of North Upton Lane, when they were approached by a man driving a Smart Car. When he was told he could not pass due to the road closure, he became abusive towards the workmen before driving off.
A short time later, a group of men arrived in a convoy of cars, dressed in track suits and carrying bats, and made threats of violence to the workers. They also subjected them to racist abuse. Gloucestershire Police believe this incident could be linked to a report of anti-social driving in the area.

When told about the (12 months) ban, Hopkins pleaded: ‘Oh, please don’t. Where I live there are no shops. The nearest shop is over a mile away.’If only she lived in a 15 minute neighbourhood. Although a mile probably comes within 15 minutes
I note that our council believes school transport is only needed for children whose closest school is over 3 miles away (even if they can’t get a place at that school), so presumably adults can be expected to walk at least a mile and a half for a shop.
