The Grundig Reflector Findmy Tracker is a plastic reflector designed to discreetly house Grundig’s own take on the AirTag. While it does work as intended and the reflector is effective, the flimsy bracket with tiny screws let the package down a little, it’s only compatible with Grundig’s own tracker and it’s also pretty pricey.

The Grundig is in a category of its own in terms of reflectors that house AirTags – or in this case, Grundig’s own Findmy Tracker. The German e-bike manufacturer makes a range of discreet tracker-concealing accessories that also includes a bell and a bottle cage.

The reflector comes with two brackets to fit various sizes of round tubes. This is a little disappointing, as it does limit the types of bikes you could fit it to, with a lot of modern road bikes having D-profile seatposts and aero tubing. That said, a lot of those bikes aren’t often seen with reflectors, which might be part of Grundig’s thinking behind this. No matter, if it’s a bike with a round seatpost you’re looking to track, Grundig has you covered.

The reflector itself is solid, and doesn’t look out of place on a commuter machine, town bike or e-bike. It works well and adds a good degree of visibility when picked out by a vehicle’s headlights. It’s a bit bigger than the sort of reflector fitted to new bikes sold in the UK, and has a bevelled edge which marginally increases visibility from the side.

This reflector screws onto the base and is secured in place with two tiny grub screws. These screws really are very, very small, so tiny in fact that I broke into a cold sweat trying to tighten them up without stripping the thread or rounding off the heads.

I’d like to have seen these made a little sturdier, but I do appreciate larger screws could draw the eyes of potential thieves and encourage them to look further, and maybe dismantle the reflector.

The Grundig tracker, which is designed to work with Apple’s iOS Find My app, seemed to work as well as Apple’s own AirTag. However, one downside of the reflector is that the cavity that houses the tracker is only compatible with the Grundig version, and won’t fit an Apple AirTag. So if you lose it or need to replace it, you’re stuck with Grundig’s own model.

I didn’t find the tracker’s effectiveness at all hampered by the reflector’s plastic housing, which was encouraging, and when installed the reflector does just look like a regular reflector, so it genuinely is a discreet solution.

Value

This is the only reflector we’ve come across that houses a tracking device – but it still seems pretty pricey for what it is, with an RRP of €100,98, though it’s currently discounted to €39,78.

The RRP for an Apple AirTag is £35 though they’re widely available for less, and even cheaper per unit if you buy a four pack. Grundig’s own costs €20 at the moment, which means you’re paying around £51 for a good plastic reflector with a flimsy-feeling mount, which does seem a bit steep.

By contrast, the Raceware Apple Airtag Holder, which is compatible with Specialized Swat-compatible saddles, costs just £15 and is a solid piece of kit.

Other options include the likes of the Topeak Cage Mount For AirTag, which attaches to your bike’s bottle cage bolts and is only a tenner.

Even better disguised is the Muc-Off Stealth Tubeless Tag Holder, which forms part of a tubeless valve. It costs £35.

Conclusion

On the whole, if you want to protect an e-bike, town bike or your best bike – provided a reflector won’t look out of place – with a discreetly concealed tracker, then this is an effective, albeit expensive option. Though I’d probably look to site a tracker at the bottle cage on a modern road bike, where it would be more discreet and look less out of place.

Verdict

Discreet option to conceal a tracker on your bike, but let down by a flimsy-feeling mount and limited compatibility
