Tadej Pogačar may be looking extremely comfortable in the yellow jersey after an almost inch-perfect opening week at the Tour de France.
But despite his serene progress on the roads of northern France over the past seven days, tensions are clearly mounting between the world champion and his big rivals for yellow, Visma-Lease a Bike.
On Saturday morning, Pogačar hit out at Jonas Vingegaard’s team and called on them to “pay respect to everybody”, following a feed zone incident which saw the UAE Team Emirates leader push Matteo Jorgenson, causing him to miss a bottle.

On Friday afternoon, three-time Tour winner Pogačar’s seemingly irresistible progress to a fourth overall victory continued in Mûr-de-Bretagne, the 26-year-old easily outsprinting Vingegaard for his second stage win of the race, reclaiming the yellow jersey he’d ceded to Mathieu van der Poel the previous day in the process.
However, the world champion’s latest box-ticking exercise was marred by a high-speed crash towards the end of the stage involving his key UAE Team Emirates domestique João Almeida, who suffered a fractured rib and suspected injured hand in the spill – though the Portuguese stage racer has started Saturday’s stage to Laval, plethora of bandages notwithstanding.
And despite Pogačar’s somewhat easy dispatching of his perennial Tour rival Vingegaard in Mûr-de-Bretagne, the stage also saw the simmering tensions between UAE Team Emirates and Visma-Lease a Bike continue to rise to the boil.
Yesterday evening, a debate was sparked on social media after footage emerged of Vingegaard’s teammate Matteo Jorgenson attempting to take a bottle from a Visma soigneur during a feed zone by riding to the right of Pogačar.
Pogacar shoves Matteo through the feed zone, causing him to miss a bottle. No penalty tho bc it didn’t cause a crash 🥴 #tdf25

The world champion can then be seen putting his hands on Jorgenson’s back and appearing to push the American, causing him to miss his bottle.
While some fans on social media criticised Jorgenson and Visma-Lease a Bike’s feed zone ‘etiquette’, others perceived Pogačar’s physical response as an act of petulance, and evidence that the Dutch team were “getting under his skin”.
And that line of thinking appears to have some grounding in reality, as the world champion responded to questions about the incident in Saint-Méen-le-Grand this morning by accusing Visma of lacking “respect”.

“There was a feed zone and we were riding in one line, and I showed an intention to go for a bottle. My soigneur was about 20 metres after Visma. But they decided to pass us on the right-hand side,” an irked Pogačar told ITV4’s Daniel Friebe.
“So if I wanted to take a bottle, I could not do anything else but give him a little bit of a push, so I could get my bottle.
“For me, it was normal – but I don’t know what their intention was. They do this a lot of times, coming in front of you in feed zones like they’re the only ones getting bottles there.
“Sometimes you have to be patient and stay on the wheel when taking a bottle and pay respect to everybody.”

Kristo Jorgenson, any
Kristo Jorgenson, any relation to Matteo?
I would suggest he goes and picks his toys up that he threw out the pram, eejit.
Stop whining Pogi, not
Stop whining Pogi, not becoming a rider of your stature. First it’s Vingegaard attacking on a downhill and now Jorgenson apparently stopped him getting his bottle – quite clear who spat the dummy.
