With an RRP of £699.99, this is a pretty stonking deal. The trainer is power-accurate to a claimed +/-2.5%, has a max power ceiling of 2,500 watts and it will connect up with all your fave virtual riding apps. The price is down to what most ‘dumb’ trainers would have cost a couple of years ago, so if you’re in the market for a trainer and don’t want to spend too big, this is a bit of a steal. Reflective cycling gear specialists Proviz are having a big old sale for Black Friday, and a standout deal for us is the Nightrider jacket, down from £99.99 to £40 for Black Friday… £40 in all colours except for the one above that is, which is £59.99, but that’s still a very good deal!

Get a Proviz Nightrider men’s jacket from just £40

Get the Proviz Nightrider women’s jacket from just £40

Don’t get too excited, but there are some great deals on Allen keys over at Amazon! While it might not be the sexiest product category, if you’re after some decent hex keys that will do the job and don’t quite have the budget for a lovely Silca or Unior set, this is a very good deal.

You get 15 metric and 15 imperial keys, and the metric ones cover pretty much every size you’ll find on a modern bike… unless it’s a star-shape bolt you need to loosen or tighten, for which you can pick up Draper’s 7-piece set for just £5.25. You’ll never have to worry about not having the right size hex key again!

The most ridiculous Black Friday offer ever? LifeLine TT-01 Turbo Trainer down to £14.99, that's 85% off!

lifeline magnetic turbo trainer
lifeline magnetic turbo trainer (Image Credit: Farrelly Atkinson)
lifeline magnetic turbo trainer
lifeline magnetic turbo trainer (Image Credit: Farrelly Atkinson)

While it’s now common knowledge that a lot of Black Friday discounts aren’t actually the absolute best offers you can get all year* (a 2021 Which? study shockingly found that 98% of products on Black Friday offers were cheaper or the same price at other times of the year), we’re fairly confident that Wiggle and Chain Reaction haven’t sold a whole turbo trainer for the price of a couple of London pints before. In fact we’ve never seen a turbo this cheap, it’s outrageously cheap.

With the original RRP at £99.99, this trainer still had plenty of satisfied customers and a couple of road.cc staffers have vouched for it on our internal Skype chat. It’s very much analogue with six levels of magnetic resistance – and it won’t do any of that Zwift or disc brake nonsense – but if you do most of your riding outside and just need something to stick your (rim brake) bike in for the odd spin or car park warm-up, this is a ridiculously good deal. You could even do some Zwifting with a Bluetooth sensor; add a fan and a basic mat, and you could start your indoor training journey for under 50 quid.

Yes Wiggle and Chain Reaction Cycles are in financial hot water, but you’re probably not too concerned about the warranty at this price. If in doubt though, buy on credit card…

Get the LifeLine TT-01 Turbo Trainer at Wiggle for a silly £14.99

Or at Chain Reaction, for the same daft cheap price of £14.99

* We check prices pretty regularly and do our very best not to post deals if we’ve seen it cheaper at another time of the year. If we’re wrong about any of the deals we’ve posted, let us know and we’ll bin it!

More Wiggle bargains: annoy Rules bigots with a Topeak Aero Wedge from just £9

Topeak Aero Wedge Pack

Topeak Aero Wedge Pack

Yes it might put you in breach of Rule #31, but one of these handy aero wedges from Topeakwill free up pocket space for extra snacks without ruining the lines of your bike too much.

While we doubt it’s going to shave you any watts, this seat pack is designed to fit right under your saddle and out of the wind, hence the aero moniker. There’s also a reflective strip and a loop for attaching a rear bike light.

The large is sold out, but road.cc staffers confirm the medium will fit two tubes, a small mini pump and a multi-tool, and the small at least one tube plus a CO2 kit and multi-tool. Grab one from just £9.

Annnd even more from Wiggle: Vitus ZX-1 with SRAM Rival electric shifting down to just £1,999.99, Orro Gold Evo 11-speed down to £959.99, Prime carbon wheels from £299.99

Vitus ZX-1 Rival

Vitus ZX-1 Rival
Vitus ZX-1 Rival (Image Credit: Farrelly Atkinson)

The bargains keep on coming at Wiggle, and even though bike prices seem to have been rising and rising in recent years, this huge deal on the Vitus ZX-1 Evo with SRAM Rival 12-speed electronic shifting is a blast from the past, even if the spec isn’t.

We gave the Ultegra Di2 model a 9/10 and a Recommends award in 2021, and that was at the RRP of £3,999.99 – this one has shallower wheels, but at half the price and with an extra cog via the SRAM Rival groupset, it’s an absolute steal at two grand. All sizes are still in stock except for the Large.

Get the Vitus ZX-1 EVO Rival AXS road bike for £1,999.99

Orro Gold Evo 7000
Orro Gold Evo 7000 (Image Credit: Farrelly Atkinson)
Orro Gold Evo 7000
Orro Gold Evo 7000 (Image Credit: Farrelly Atkinson)

If your budget is half of this, then you can’t go wrong with the Orro Gold Evo 7000-FSA R800 road bike, down to £959.99 and the best price we’ve seen this bike so far.

It’s rare you get a full carbon frame and 11-speed for under a grand nowadays, and this bike only really compromises on the chainset and brakes, which are provided by FSA and Tektro respectively. This bike was also nominated for our Sportive and Endurance Bike of the Year award in 2019/20, and would make a fine introduction to carbon road bikes, or even a luxury winter bike.

Get the Orro Gold Evo 7000 for just £959.99

Prime Doyenne carbon

And finally… carbon wheels for under 300 quid? The  dependable Prime Doyenne wheels with a 50mm depth are half price at £299.99, and would make a great upgrade for your rim brake road bike. The internal width is 20.3mm, so they should take 28mm tyres if your bike will quite comfortably.

Get the Prime Doyenne rim brake carbon wheels for just £299.99

As we’ve already alluded to, Wiggle had to call in administrators a few weeks back, but as far as we know they’re trading as normal. If in doubt, buy on a credit card or via PayPal.

Black Friday new bike day? Merlin Cycles have an almost half price offer on the Wilier GTR Team 105 road bike, reduced to £1,099 from £1,999. We’ve reviewed a previous model of this one, tech editor Mat finding it a “swift and smooth ride for those who want an endurance bike with a racing slant”.

For just a touch over a grand you’d be getting a full carbon frame and Shimano 105 11-speed throughout. Sure you might eventually want to upgrade the wheels and finishing kit, but for the Black Friday price you’d have few complaints.

We were impressed enough to give the Topeak Smart D2 Guage a 9/10 rating a couple of years ago, the price on Amazon now down to £20.99.

As Simon reported back from his review: “It fits both Presta and Schrader valves, gives live readings of changing pressures and will last months, if not years, on a single battery. There’s little not to like – it’s the perfect antidote to analogue track pump readings that are often inaccurate and hard to see.”

Welcome to the Cyber Monday live blog!

Oh gawd, it’s Cyber Monday! Yep, after a not exactly hectic but deal-laden Black Friday (or should that be Black November? It’s seemed that way this year) we’re now getting to the stage where the final reductions are made on sale stuff before 2024 bikes and cycling gear hit the shelves proper. Before the Christmas sales that is, and Boxing Day ones, and the January sales etc etc…

There is of course no need to spend. The world won’t stop spinning and your bank balance will surely thank you. However, at the same time we can’t deny there are more than a few bargains to be had if you’re in the market for something new, or want a head start on buying Christmas presents for your cycling-mad friends or relatives.

Despite our reservations about going too Black Friday/Cyber Monday crazy, we wouldn’t be doing our job as a cycling website if we weren’t telling you about the best places to buy kit, tech, bikes and more cycling stuff worth having at great prices. If the deals we’ve posted aren’t genuinely the best around and cheaper than they are at other times of the year, we won’t run them. If you find anything we’ve posted for less, let us know and we’ll edit or remove the post.

We’ve had a quick scan of the deals we posted on this blog on Friday, and pretty much all of them are still live with the exception of a few sizes of the reduced bikes now out of stock. We’ll find a few more Cyber Monday deals for you today as well, enjoy…

* You probably guessed, but we have to tell you: we may earn affiliate commission from some of the links you click on this page. Enjoy!

    Anyone know anything about

Anyone know anything about the xplova noza V? Whilst there are a handful of media and customer reviews of the noza S, can’t find anything at all on the noza V.

Externally it looks completely different to the noza S although unclear how different the internals are. I think the V is newer than the S although it’s unclear if the V is a replacement (making the S obsolete) or if the V is supposed to fit a different niche. On paper, the V has marginally better accuracy (2% rather than 2.5%) although a lighter flywheel (3.4kg rather than 5.9kg) and lower maximum power rating (2,200 W rather than 2,500W).

But I don’t really care about the stats (no chance of bothering the maximum power!) – just want something that works easily and reliably. I like the look of the folding legs on the V for storage, and the adjustable feet (the floor of my garage isn’t quite level), and if it also improves on some of the minor quibbles reviewers have had with the S, then that can only be a good thing.

(and yes, I know there is a risk of buying from Wiggle right now – hopefully mitigated to some extent by the fact that firmware support seems to be offered directly by Xplova and not dependent on Wiggle’s continued existence).

    Annoyingly, that Draper allen

Annoyingly, that Draper allen key set doesn’t include the elusive 3.5mm used on Campag delta brakes. Still, it does have the 7mm for some Mavic stems and C-Record crank extractors; plus the 5.5mm for some old seat clamp bolts. This is why my toolkit needs so many otherwise-obselete tools and trinkets.

Re Wiggle / “If in doubt, buy

Re Wiggle / “If in doubt, buy on a credit card or via PayPal.”

Paying with a credit card only helps for items costing >£100 (as that is when the additional legal protection from S75 kicks in); for items below that you may still have some protection via “chargeback” whether you pay with a credit or a debit card. So for the £14.99 turbo trainer, there’s no benefit in using a credit card.

Paying with PayPal complicates the matter. On the one hand, PayPal themselves offer their own “Buyer Protection”. On the other hand, paying with PayPal can be seen to break the direct link between your purchase and the trader (i.e. Wiggle) and may therefore prevent you from using the protection offered by your bank/credit card provider itself.

Hookless is still a bad idea. I agree that it should be safe when all guidelines are adhered to, but that is not always going to happen in the real world. I've had several clients come to my workshop with bikes that they've bought 2nd hand and have no idea what I mean when I ask about their hookless rims. Just yesterday I someone with a Scott bike with Zipp 303 S hookless wheels; he'd been pumping his tubed tires up to 90-100 psi on them, because that's what he's always done. I had to educate him and he's now going to be using his new 30mm tires at 60-65 psi and checking that his pump is somewhat calibrated. Why do brands like Zipp continuing to put people in dangerous situations that are totally unnecessary?

I can't think of anywhere I have seen cyclists getting more space than pedestrians unless we count the fact that twats in cars like to park blocking pavements as a matter of course around me. I would also suggest that if you want people to travel around an area effectively instead of using a car, cycling is the best way to do it. I wouldn't walk 2-3 miles to get somewhere but I would happily cycle it because it would take me about 1/4 of the time or less.

There is basically no cycling infrastructure in Edinburgh that is not either a shared footpath or shared with motor vehicles. Cyclists are subservient in both cases. On shared use paths this is by legislation and common sense. On the road it is because most cycle lanes in residential areas are parking spaces, bus lanes have busses in them and the lanes segregated by wands peppered with give ways to cars every few feet. And people still park in them. Pretty much the only exception is that side of the extremely wide path through the meadows, for a few hundred yards. The total width of the paved region is probably wide enough to land a light aircraft, there is absolutely no restriction to pedestrians and pedestrians completely ignore the cycle markings on one side anyway. Given the colossal amount of space given over to motor vehicles in the city, which are predominantly single occupancy, and the fact it is illegal to cycle on all of the pavements dedicated formpedestrians, I going to put this guy's comments in the "idiotic" category.

I believe the Miners Pension Fund has proved a nice little earner for Government coffers, generating a huge surplus and that Government has been pocketing half of it. This payment that you apparently resent so much is a partial settlement of that unfairness!

Mr Fraser would seem a perfect paraphrase of the old cartoon about the millionaire with a thousand cookies telling the working man with one cookie to watch out or the immigrants will steal his cookie...incidentally, in this age of obesity I often see pedestrians far wider than me and the bike, not to mention people with pushchairs twice as wide or more, they don't feel guilty about the amount of space they're taking from me, or so I surmise from the way they wander into the bike lane whenever it suits them...

10 years in prison for killing a cyclist should be the minimum sentence. The objective is to raise awareness and remind motorists they must remain vigilant at all times when behind the wheel. Drivers who harm people and/or damage properties shall be sent to retest. No excuses. No exceptions.

@wtjs No remorse from the 84 year old driver though. " He fully accepts responsibility and places no blame on the cyclist whatsoever". Which seems to imply he'd like to blame the cyclist if he could.

Hookless and yet still ‘just 1585’ grams. No and no . The only thing ‘industry leading’ is their marketing team that convinces folk to part with their money for this product.
