Dates for next year’s Tour of Britain have been announced. The 2009 edition of the race will take place over eight days, running from Saturday 12th September to Saturday 19th September. The race will once again be a UCI category 2.1 race which means the Great Britain team can take part (national teams are not allowed to compete in 2.0 races) and that the field can have a maximum of 50% ProTour teams. Race organisers say the Tour of Britain will continue with its policy of mixing the very best ProTour, Professional Continental and Continental teams with the top domestic teams. Despite it being barely a month since the 2008 edition finished ToB organisers report that they have already received expressions of interest about taking part in the 2009 race from over 20 teams. The 2008 race was widely acknowledged to have been the most successful edition of the Tour so far. Large numbers tuned in for The Tour of Britain highlights each evening on ITV4. With an average reach of 310,000 viewers and a peak reach of 376,000 for the highlights of Stage Five to Dalby Forest in Yorkshire, the programme compared strongly with the Tour de France highlights on the same channel and met with an extremely positive reaction from both ITV and Tour of Britain organisers. The 2009 Tour of Britain will finish in central London, on the same circuit used for the opening stage of this year’s Tour with full details of the route being announced at the national launch in the Spring.

We have to hope.. REAL infrastructure ( not painted lines on clogged choking roads ) is what is needed to encourage the shift. Do as the Netherlands, make it MUCH easier to cycle to your destination rather than drive. Make driving harder, less and less convenient and provide meaningful alternatives.
Honestly, I don't see the point here. E-bike batteries are a danger, that is simply a fact - and it doesn't apply just to illegally converted bikes. Even a perfectly legal bike could get it's battery damaged, resulting in a hard-to-cointain, potentially lethal fire whose consequences could go into millions of pounds. And what's just as important, we can't expect railway workers to know the technicalities required to confidently decide whether a given bike is OK or not. Just because you like your e-bike and it helps you get to work does not make it any less dangerous. Just like there is a blanket ban on petrol canisters (even certtified ones, which are genrally safe to use), a blanket ban on e-bikes is just common sense and a justified precaution.

Seeing as it is a national title for cyclists to compete for across various age groups, I would have thought it hasn't missed the boat. Maybe the event could be held over several races on consecutive weekends and the UK gravel title awarded based on the best aggregate points total.
This article (and probably this post😀) would be greatly improved with a few images of the additional screen layouts and individual icons for the various vehicles. I upgraded to the Rearvue 820 and have found that the lack of disappearing vehicle icons -from when they match your own pace- a game changer. The intelligent use of new size icons also really excellent. Other than that, the additional added screen showing 2 lanes of approaching vehicles, interesting but not really adding much value. This screen lasted a month before I removed it from my activity profiles and I don’t miss it .
I wonder if councillor Moutray considered spray painting a bicycle with a raised red hand to indicate no cycling. That may have raised the profile of his campaign within the community and perhaps provoked further debate.
I can see compromise coming. Droning round a 20k or whatever lap 10 times will bore the pants off riders, spectators & so ultimately sponsors. That said, we cannot continue putting lives at risk from lack of funding. Maybe some funding from the stupidly expensive streaming services. Maybe cutout some of the tediously long bits, have a combination of laps but keep the sense of adventure, like rallying compared to roundy roundy racing.
Does "embracing gravel" have similar meaning to "faceplanting"?
Being a councillor doesn't actually give someone a carte blanche to go around spray painting on the public highway. Hopefully the police take an interest in this case of criminal damage (with the evidence helpfully documented by the perpetrator), and the council serves him a graffiti removal notice to recover their cost in removing it.

is great for the masses, but it means that the ToB actually is only a 7 day race, as the last stage will be a parade, right?!
