If you've ever fancied an End-to-End, aka LEJOG, but you wouldn't even know where to start with the planning, you could do worse than consider the Action Medical Research's 60th anniversary charity challenge - and you've got a whole year to train.
LEJOG (Land's End to John O'Groats) is a challenge for any cyclist. Whichever way you decide to take, it's 1000 miles of tough terrain - but this is for a great cause, and how many people can say they've sweated the tarmac from one end of the country to the other.
Along the way you'll take in the evolving countryside, from the Cornish coast, through the Lakes and up into the Scottish Glens.
In return for your commitment to raising a minimum of £3,000 to help sick babies and children, Action provide a fully supported route, staying in hotels every night, for the ten-day ride.
The ride will take place from 16 to 26 August 2013, finishing on the bank holiday Monday.
Here's a preview of what you can expect, from the 2012 ride:
Action Medical Research is celebrating its 60th anniversary in 2012 and since 1952 has spent more than £100 million on research that has helped save thousands of children’s lives.
The charity is currently supporting work around meningitis, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, premature birth, and some very rare conditions that severely affect children.
Emma Bazely, Challenge Events Fundraiser Action Medical Research said: “This is your chance to sign up for an iconic event, the ultimate in biking challenges.
"It’s your chance to push yourself to the limit in an exciting, well-supported and unforgettable experience, and all for a good cause. We want this year’s event to be bigger, better and more competitive than ever so do join us.”
