Today’s near miss sees a driver pass a number of cyclists at significant speed. He does this inside a line of queuing traffic which he passes by driving in a bus lane.
The incident occurred on Tooting High Street in London at about 6.30pm on March 5, 2018. It was reported two later and Mitch, who submitted the footage, has recently heard that the driver has been fined.
(Mitch also provided us with NMotD 89 - another that resulted in a successful prosecution.)
On this occasion, the registered owner of the vehicle did not supply the details of the driver at the time of the incident.
This resulted in them being taken to court for failing to comply with a legal document.
The defendant was ordered to pay a £660 fine, £166 costs and received six penalty points.
> Near Miss of the Day turns 100 - Why do we do the feature and what have we learnt from it?
Over the years road.cc has reported on literally hundreds of close passes and near misses involving badly driven vehicles from every corner of the country – so many, in fact, that we’ve decided to turn the phenomenon into a regular feature on the site. One day hopefully we will run out of close passes and near misses to report on, but until that happy day arrives, Near Miss of the Day will keep rolling on.
If you’ve caught on camera a close encounter of the uncomfortable kind with another road user that you’d like to share with the wider cycling community please send it to us at info [at] road.cc or send us a message via the road.cc Facebook page.
If the video is on YouTube, please send us a link, if not we can add any footage you supply to our YouTube channel as an unlisted video (so it won't show up on searches).
Please also let us know whether you contacted the police and if so what their reaction was, as well as the reaction of the vehicle operator if it was a bus, lorry or van with company markings etc.

So not actually prosecuted for the close pass but for failing to comply with a legal document, then maybe for driving in the bus lane. Luckily there wasn't someone slowly walking across as the clueless fucktard wouldn't have stood a chance of stopping, no doubt they wouldn't have supplied details of the driver for that one either.
All kinds of stupid. The annoying thing is that the driver must have been on the points limit if someone else was willing to accept 6 points for them. Also good to see the near left hook. Makes me feel much better about my commute!
colour me confused, are we talking about the same incident - the one where there is a clear picture of the driver and the one where they fail to provide driver details. taht just seems like shoddy police work if thats the case.
the only way this is going to end is if thepenalty for failing to provide is increased
It is easier for the police to prosecute for failure to nominate than for careless driving and the penalty may be be higher.
Well, he's probably a proud man.........
.......
.... because that car is NOT compensation for anything
Tooting - last refuge of the bewildered and terminally incompetent. Every day I cycle down there and hate it - it worse after 7pm when the bus lane is open to other traffic; cars park then in it and on the blue painted part that it pleases TfL to call 'Cycle Superhighway #7'
Driver showing themselves so clearly for the camera too.
I hope the few seconds saved for the annomous driver, getting to the next queue of traffic ever so slightly quicker was worth it for the registered keeper.
Well done Mitch.
