Tour Down Under: Stage 3 win to Simon Gerrans (+ video highlights)

Three-time winner also takes over race lead

Three-time Tour Down Under winner Simon Gerrans has won today’s Stage 3 in Campbelltown to take the overall lead, beating defending champion Rohan Dennis of BMC Racing from a select group of 10 riders.

Among that group that had formed following the climb of Corkscrew Road was overnight leader Jay McCarthy of Tinkoff, who finished fourth on the 139 kilometre stage from Glenelg.

He is now second overall, three seconds behind Gerrans, with Dennis a further two seconds back in third place.

Dimension Data rider Tyler Farrar was one of several to crash and later had to borrow a fan's bike and shoes in order to complete the stage, as we report here.

Here's the video highlights of the stage.
