Cyclists in Greater Manchester are being invited to free sessions hosted by bike shops to ensure their bicycles are ready for the rigours of winter riding, as well as to get hints and tips on riding safely in the coming months.
The initiative sees Transport for Greater Manchester team up with Evans Cycles, Decathlon, and Edinburgh Bicycle Co-operative stores in the area, as well as Chorlton shop Ken Foster’s Cycle Logic, to host the sessions during November and December.
Special offers, including in-store discounts, will also be available to those who book a place, which can be done by following the links on this page on the TfGM website, where you will also find winter riding advice, as well as links to free one-to-one training and basic maintenance classes.
Alternatively, booking for all courses and events can be done through TfGM’s Better by Cycle page on the Event Brite website, or by calling 0300 123 1675.
Councillor Chris Paul, who is cycling champion on the TfGM Committee, said: “With a little bit of preparation it’s easy to keep on riding your bike at this time of year. Making sure you keep your bike in good condition, stay warm and stay safe is all the more important in winter weather.
“Our website gives some really useful advice on how to deal with all kinds of winter conditions, and how to stay safe on the roads while riding in poor light.
“Alongside the series of one-off winter cycling events in local bike shops, our cycling instructors will also continue to offer free, personalised sessions that teach skills for all levels, throughout the winter months.”
TfGM adds that it will continue to offer its Learn to Ride and Road Rider Ready courses for first-time and novice cyclists aged over 16 throughout the winter.
