Continental tyre amnesty - get a pair of Grand Sport Race tyres free

Get a brand new pair of Grand Sport Race tyres and inner tubes worth £72 when you trade in your old tyres

Continental are offering a pair of their brand new Grand Sport Race tyres in return for a pair of old tyres (any non Continental brand) with a pair of inner tubes worth £71.88. The promotion runs until 31st July at selected dealers and some sportives, and they’re only asking you to complete a feedback form on the new tyres in return for their generosity.

To partake in the offer you need to take your bike to a participating dealer where they will remove your old tyres and fit a pair of brand new Grand Sport Race in 23 or 25mm width with new Race28 inner tubes. They’ll dispose of the old tyres on your behalf.

This offer runs from 15th May to 31st July, but Continental says that dealers have a limited supply, and once a dealer exhausts their supply prior to 1st June, the offer is no longer available. So the hint is to not hang around if you want to make use of this offer, and get down to your nearest dealer sharpish. With a new pair of tyres fitted, customers will be asked to give their feedback of the new tyres at their website. Doesn't seem too much to ask in return for a brand new pair of tyres.

The Grand Sport is a brand new tyre from Continental available in three variations; Light, Extra and Race. The latter is a racing and training tyre featuring a 180tpi casing with a NyTech breaker to protect against flats, and the new PureGrip compound is said to provide high levels of grip.

There are also three events that you’ll be able to do a tyre swap, where they’ll have about 100 tyres so again you don’t want to be back of the queue.  The events are the Welsh Wild West Sportive (25th May),  Dragon Ride (8th June) and the Dartmoor Classic Sportive (22nd June).

You can see the full list of participating dealers at their website http://www.tyre-amnesty.co.uk/index.php/offer-details

No one within a 20 mile radius for me, and there's at least one of the nearest I wouldn't trust to change their own pants let alone my tyres.

Distributors near me all sold out yesterday

Oh well, only one of those shops is near(ish) to me, and it seems as though the publicity has caused a bit of a "tramampoline" rush.

I do need a set of summer tyres, but it looks like I'm going to surprise my LBS by going in and asking to buy a set (not those though).

Simpsons reference?

An LBS of mine is on the list, gave him a call but his allocation had gone already.

Yeah, though it's a sign your getting old when you can quote Simpsons gags from back when they were funny. For anyone who doesn't know it - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=il8Q5ZoJELQ

Typical. Have just recycled a pair of threadbare non conti tyres kicking around gathering dust for such a time as this. Ah well.

My shop has a waiting list - they're waiting to see how many pair of tyres arrive. Exciting isn't it!?

My LBS are charging £14 to fit them, which I don't mind paying when Conti are taking the 'hit' on the tyres and tubes.

Having arranged everything with them, I am dropping off the wheels, free of tyres and tubes, but will, of course be providing them with some 'old' (very very old) 700c tyres

I emailed Conti who replied saying that it was down to the specific dealer to charge if they wanted.

We're giving away 25 pairs of Conti tyre and tube combos. They must be fitted in store and you must have crap tyres http://www.ukbikesdepot.com/info/free-continental-tyres-continental-tyre...

not sure if all the shops only have 25 sets?

This sounds like a great offer, unfortunately there doesn't appear to be anywhere in Essex listed as a participant, bit of a long drive to the nearest one, kind of knocks the point of them being free if it's going to cost a lot to get there.
Oh well, hopefully this will encourage others to do similar offers with new tyres etc, I've got a couple of old spares ready just in case.

just called my LBS, who are listed as a participating retailer, and this article was the first they'd heard of the offer!

They're on the phone to their distributor now...that should be an interesting conversation.

Dammit, the only old tyres I have are contis! Matters little though as no Cambridge bike shops on the list.

I wasnt charged to have the tyres fitted..in my eyes thats bang out of order and Id suggest letting Conti know to clarify as to have some charge and others not seems a bit harsh.

I know its workshop time, but £20 to fit 2 bike tyres??!!
My 8 year old can do that...hmm, maybe time for him to start earning his keep... strokes chin in a pondering fashion

They are below GP 4000s

"Chosen as a fitment tyre with many top bicycle manufacturers & introducing Launching our new PUREGRIP compound, sitting just below BlackChili but comparable with any other compound on the market"

Apparently at least one shop is charging £20 to fit the tyres according to Twitter.

Kind of understandable really.

Depends if they give the option to just give you them, bit out of order to charge if there is no option to.
It's not like the shop are losing out, Conti are the ones taking the hit here.

Unless conti are paying the shop to do the change over then yes the shop is losing out time!

Well yes, which is why it should just be an exchange of the tyres.
Out of order having a 'free tyre offer' , but you'll have to pay the dealer to fit them...

At last my refusal to throw away old tyres has born fruit !

Are dealers trying to make some money out of this by charging for fitting them?

Managed to get my tyres yesterday. Nice and light, 1st test ride tonight.

I took the wheels in with old tyres fitted. Their workshop fitted the Conti's...tyres fitted by a bike workshop...Oh the shame 24

I'm confused - are these tyres supposed to be more sporty than the GP4000s, or less so? Is the winter/training tyre more durable than GP4S? I love Conti but their range is almost too big...

It is too big, but I think most of us were sold at the word "free" 21

More dealers in east cheshire than in south London...

Train fair to visit the old dears, plus a ride in the peak district Vs free tyres?

So with a lack of old tyres, what's the cheapest, nastiest tyre you can buy new? Anything in lidl for a pound? 21
