Good earnings for those "recovery" drivers.

The account in the Mirror is much better - no idea why this is national news though.

...Department for Transport suggest it will take South Gloucestershire Council 742 years to repair its crumbling roads and potholes

So it will allow you to continue with your eyes closed as long as your hands are on the steering wheel?

Actually technically students are only allowed to have a car in Cambridge with permission from the University Senior Proctor, which will only be considered if supported by the student's college. However even thirty-five years ago there seemed to be a blind eye policy and as far as I know it hasn't been toughened since. It's a bit like the requirement to spend three-fourths of each term in residence within three miles of Great St.Mary's, nobody checks up.

Erm - 'steadily slow down to a stop' while driving on the motorway (the only road it's able to use this 'self-driving' tech on)?

But it's ok as, if that car is rear ended, Ford can they say that the accident wouldn't have happened if the other car also had Ford's self-driving technology.

The only way to solve the dangers of their system is for every vehicle to have it. In much the same way as the only way to stop mass shootings in the USA is more guns

Correct - you can see this as either an arms race ("I have to drive my kids to school as everyone else does, it's not safe to walk / cycle") or a self-reinforcing strategy.

This one used to be a wing mirror graveyard. Once saw a wedged 4x4 being recovered by a tow truck: https://goo.gl/maps/8UPukHVUhEUYpMZ68

PS: threading doesn't seem to work for me on this thread at all, which makes it quite a challenge to follow. Is it just me (I also get it on other long threads like Pictures of Your Bike)?

Well of course, the dog might be blind and elderly, but it still has to eat.

I think you mean, "when did Eryri become Snowdonia?"

We overloaded the threading ages ago I'm afraid. Requests for a fix fall on deaf ears.

It always was. That's its name.

According to Wikipedia, "The term Eryri first appeared in a manuscript in the 9th-century Historia Brittonum, in an account of the downfall of the semi-legendary 5th-century king Gwrtheyrn (Vortigern)."

The use of Eryri (for Snowdonia) and Wyddfa (for the Snowdon peak) has become more widespread in recent years and last year Snowdonia National Park Authority voted to use Yr Wyddfa and Eryri rather than Snowdon and Snowdonia:

Clarkson's Farm TV series 'misleading', says West Oxfordshire District Council

Thie farm's dealings with the local authority sounds suitably  knockabout and chaotic.  Er , yes Mr spokesman, I don't think people want an hour of your planning meeting:

"In a statement, a WODC spokesperson said: “The planning meeting shown in Clarkson’s Farm ran for well over an hour but was covered in a matter of minutes in the show".

Lifelong Clarkson fan pays a visit, struggles to conceal his disappointment.

EDIT : item on Sky News saying a West Oxon Cllr has received a death threat re all of the above. Nice lot, aren't they?

Fed up with pedestrians in your way - simply remove them with your massive truck. In the unlikely event you don't kill them outright, you can finish the job with your wing mounted shotgun.

(not entirely sure if the shotgun is a photoshop addition or not )

drivers bemoaning the absence of parking meters - say whaaaat

Ah yes, this will be the ones who are all perfectly safe to drive Cornwall's narrow lanes, but "Lots of confused and frustrated older customers calling in [the] shop asking what is happening with it as they either don't have a smart phone or are confused by multiple apps and longwinded payments."

£2.50 to park after 6 pm.
I'm old enough to remember when £2.50 really would have got you 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps - can you get anything to drink in a pub for that much now?

Oh, don't tell me the cost will be met from delaying buying that replacement tyre for the one that's on 1.8mm, or that brake disc with the amber advisory.

Wow, Mr Jones, imagine people getting things they need locally, rather than driving into Truro for them:

Cornwall Council's proposed car park increases 'will have serious impact' on Truro

BID manager writes:  "Obviously our nighttime economy and leisure sectors may see a decline in customer numbers once those customers will have to pay for late afternoon / evening parking."

Mr Jones added: "Truro’s footfall data year to date versus 2019 is tracking at -27% therefore we need to be encouraging our customers into the city centre and not potentially providing a further barrier of increasing the car park charges which may see customers choosing to shop micro local in their own villages / towns rather than popping into Truro"

Don't wear a hairclip when driving.

Nothing to do with

"In the thick fog I couldn't see clearly and I came to an unexpected bend. I tried to brake and make the turn on time, but I lost control of the car and it skidded across to the other side of the road.

"I think I hit a tree, which caused the car to flip - the police said it flipped 50 metres," she said.

Good job that in the long parking bay that there were no cars she could have crashed into. Oh wait, crashing into parked cars is normal.

Earby man banned from the road after trying to help at crash

So you're caught over the drink drive limit after stopping your car to help after a crash. How do you defend such a charge?

Start with

Quote:

Lister had pleaded not guilty on the basis he had been drinking after stopping his car.

And, if that doesn't work, try a bit of whataboutary:

Quote:

Michelle Man, defending, said the driver of the crashed vehicle was also breathalysed and gave a much higher reading than her client.

Exact date when Paignton's ring road will open again

A reminder from the article of the belly-aching when this started: "When work began on the road, businesses in Brixham warned that they were going to be “cut off” for the duration of the project, and local schools and colleges said their students would face long delays getting to and from their studies"

From what I can see, Brixham seems to have survived, and it hasn't been the Seige of Paris 1870-71 after all.

Open in time for Easter, BTW.

Villagers fear being 'trapped in homes' during major roadworks

We haven't had a trapped in our homes story for a while:

“It’s a nightmarish thought as there are around 350 residents’ cars that need to use the diversion, quite apart from delivery, service and emergency vehicles. Many of us are afraid of being trapped in our homes or facing unmanageable traffic problems,” said Mrs Hibberd. “We are sick with worry.”
