Cycling Numbers Up

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-52269964

I hope it lasts. I want to believe, but I worry the change in activity won't last.

It has been very dry in Scotland since the lockdown started.

Excellent news. And you have to ask why are more people cycling? It's not as if car use for essential journeys has been banned or even frowned upon, and certainly nobody is forcing people to use their bikes instead. It's almost as if, given the choice, many more people prefer to cycle. Indeed, per the article:
"Before the outbreak, I'd normally drive to work. I wouldn't cycle in Glasgow because I'm worried about safety; the roads used to feel too busy and dangerous and I wasn't confident."
So in terms of a policy experiment, restricting car use to the extent that people feel safe cycling, let the record stand.
