    I bought this recently.

After fitting on the new stem riser onto the mountain bike, i find that when i try to move the handlebar left and right (to check for stability), the handlebar moves. it is not fixed in place.

Should I send this back and get a refund?

    Thanks

My feeling is that that is an

My feeling is that that is an inherently unsafe solution to a short steerer tube. An alloy insert into the interior of the steerer tube bonded to that and an extension then attached would in my mind be far safer.

The stem and bars move or

The stem and bars move or just the bars? The former says the stem doesn’t match your steerer diameter, the latter the stem doesn’t match your bars clamp area diameter. Measure both, return stem, buy correct size.

It sounds very unsafe to me.

It sounds very unsafe to me.

Couple things that might be worth checking; the inner diameter of the riser (is it nominal), the outer diameter of the steerer (again, is it nominal), are the bolts torqued correctly and use grip paste.

Even if you do all the above and everything is as it should be, I would be wary as it does not sound safe.
