Edge 500 lost Ride

Went for an excellent ride this afternoon.  Sun was out, mild and a nice route.  Went along nicely for me and I was keen to look at my ride data this evening.

I got irrationally annoyed with no activity to be found on my Garmin.  No FIT file with the right time stamp was created.  I did fine two BIN files in the EXT DATA directory with the right timestamp.

I have contacted Garmin support, but I was wondering if anyone has managed to recover data in a situation like this.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the comments.  I tried the undelete tools referred to here and elsewhere from a Google search, but it is as if the file never existed.  Garmin did get back to me and told me there was nothing that could be done.  So the ride is lost.  Not the end of the world, but a bit annoying.  I have got over it though and will have to do that route again.

Monday and Tuesday commutes downloaded just fine.

Went for a ride yesterday (garmin520) after a sotware update.

At the beggining of the ride Garmin went into some crazy ass Interval Training mode (1 minute intervals) and I couldn't get it to stop, despite powering off/on.

Then when I thought it was working correctly it seemed to stop recording of it's own accord (only noticed this after I had been out and completed 26kms).

I had Strava running on the phone so that I could get the live  segments (hate the android app as the total ascent is always way out in comp to Garmin). Even the live segments seemed to be off...but then started working again.

The Strava file did not link up with Garmin Connect...

Then today I get another Garmin software update, have applied that...only to be met with yet another Garmin update (on Express)

WTF is going on...anyone else had same/similar experience in last 24/48 hrs...?

I have occaionally forgotten to reset my edge 800 before switching off, and then wondered why ride wasn't there. Turning it on, resetting and turning off sorted that.

However, I have lost data im majorly annoying style when my Garmin crashed 15 hours into my longest ever ride, 10 mins from the end!! Couldn't even turn it back on durimg the ride but the battery wasn't flat. Fortunately I was also logging with phone as don't trust it, but still lost ANT+ sensor data. 2

I had a similar isue with a Edge 500 a few years ago. I think I just kept plugging it into the computer and eventually it found the file and uploaded it. The only issue I ever had with that model.

My Edge Touring Plus seemed not to have recorded yesterdays ride (Sunday).  First time it's ever done that.  (I only checked on the device under Rides, I didn't go exploring the files, but it stubbornly insisted the last ride was Thursday) I left it charging / syncing attached to the laptop, then I started the thing up yesterday evening and magically it was there.  Ho hum.  Random garmin behaviour...

Try this: http://garmin.kiesewetter.nl/

I've had limited success with it, usually recovering a few kms of the bad file. It's always the most epic rides that have the highest chance of corrupting too, once you've been recording over 10 hours. Last time it happened I was ready to chuck my Garmin into the sea but there really isn't a decent alternative.

Just go out and ride it faster. Then you won't need to find that lost file.

Google it - there's a way to find a hidden file. DO NOT record a new ride in the meantime.
