Infants and child seats

There seems to be a lot of difference in option ion between what people actually do and what manufacturers of seats/helmets etc say.

What age do you think a child should be before you take them on the bike with you? My youngest son is 6 months old and my wife has just bought a new bike. The other two kids are eager to get out cycling as a family and my wife wants to be able to head out during the day, just popping to the shops or having a bit of exercise.

Riding in a bicycle child seat requires that the child be able to hold his head up and not flop about when you're cornering or riding on rough roads. So it depends on his state of development, which you should discuss with his doctor. Using a trailer helps reduce the sloshing effect.
