With over 11000ft of climbing and over 120 miles this will be a hard day but, hopefully, a rewarding one. Riding in one of the most beautiful parts of the country at the top of every climb is an epic view waiting to welcome you.
Starting from Scarborough Rugby Club, we are straight out in to the national park heading north over the Flyingdales Moor. This course starts to climb and descend almost immediately so gives little chance for rest, but try to keep a little in the tank - you have some absolute monsters on the way.
The first real climb of the day comes in Grosmont to Egton, followed by a short climb to the top of Beacon Hill with some fantastic views. A short hilly loop out from Castleton then back on a long gruelling climb up Castleton Rigg to the top of Rosedale Head. We now descend to Rosedale Abbey, make sure you recover because this next climb will challenge everyone.
Rosedale Chimney has a double hair pin, 14% average gradient, 1.4km and max gradient at 33%. Yes, that was meant to read 33%! From the top we descend to Hutton-le-Hole for a small loop returning to the village to take the long route back to Rosedale Abbey for our second climb out of the village - this time a longer more drawn out 25%, heading over Hamer Moor.
Continuing north we now descend off of Glaisdale Rigg and turn west then south to Goathland and RAF Flyingdales. From here, we pass over Saltergate Moor and Lockton Low Moor before heading west in to Dalby Forest. As the finish draws closer there is no relief from the relentless climbing which continues to roll in till the very last mile.
At the finish you will receive your event specific T-shirt, medal, a well-earned welcome and be congratulated on defeating the moors.
I almost feel the layer of grime lifting off this one with my Muc-off cleaner and an old t-shirt: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/405471975420?
