Shield your eyes! Morvelo has recently unveiled its new Mono SpeedSuit which combines its Superlight Jersey with its regular bib shorts to create a light and fast-looking outfit and is available in two crazy designs.
We seem to be entering a new era of dazzling designs and increasing confidence in colours and patterns, with designers pushing out ever challenging designs in the past few years. We’ve seen some quite spectacular outfits pass through the road.cc office, with a high level of opinion dividing interest from you lot.
Available in two designs, the Mono SpeedSuit is made from Italian fabrics with an emphasis on breathability and low weight, with mesh panels carefully placed to increase ventilation in hot weather. It also has an SPF50 treatment to protect your skin.
The shorts feature a dual layer perforated chamois. Flat lock stitching is used in the construction, there are silicone bands at the leg openings, a low cut collar and two aero rear pockets plus one zipped pocket.
Morvelo doesn’t make any aero claims for the Mono. “We have absolutely no scientific data to support our claim. No wind tunnel testing. No Pro Teams to try it out in glittering international TTs. No confusing technical descriptions. All we can tell you is that you’ll feel as fast as Nibali plunging down a mountain with a Grand Tour at stake. We could go on about how we use multiple fabrics to help increase aerodynamics and breathability blah blah blah, but what’s the point? You’ll look fast and feel fast. And that is the point,” describes the company.
The Mono SpeedSuit costs £160 and is available in a range of sizes and two colours. The Attack Mono SpeedSuit is limited to just 20, so be quick if you want this colour, while the black and white regular Unity Evo Mono is the launch edition. {However, I can hear previous product thread comments saying ‘Black’ you must be crackers, implying that black makes you invisible in the winter, which might have a little bit of truth, though drivers should be looking at my very bright lights. I choose not to have to wear dayglo colours every day and don’t like anyone implying that that freedom of choice is wrong just because they have been indocrinated into a health and safety culture. {Why are there children wearing hi-viz tabards in school playgrounds?} but that green suit is a bit like camoflage (not that the UK is often that lush a colour,) I can imagine what people might say after an accident. }
Perhaps Morvelo is worried about sharks.

I love Morevelo stuff, totally unapologetic, either you’ve got the stones and the talent to match to wear these or you’re going to look a fool (I have neither)
It’s not even that crazy
It’s not even that crazy looking when sat on a bike. Stuff like this is about skin tone. As long the colours match your skin tone you will pull it off. That’s why you see fashion shoots use lighter skinned models for dramatic or neutral looking colours, and darker skinned models for bolder colours. Your skin tone is part of a colour palette whether you like it or not.
Go out get a tan, and you’ll pull off than green number no bother. Actually like seeing guys and girls out on the bike in stylish kit, cos I know that they know that we live in a small c conservative ,angsty country, full of people just waiting to judge you. So I wave at them more enthusiastically than everyone else.
