Schwalbe has updated it’s venerable Hans Dampf trail and all-mountain tyre with a new tread pattern that gets larger blocks for extra bite. It’s available in the new Addix compounds and a staggering numbers of widths and wheel sizes.

The tyre is designed to be used on the front or rear and sits in between the trail and cross-country Nobby Nic and the more aggressive Magic Mary in the Schwalbe range. The tread blocks are now 50% larger with a shoulder that’s been beefed up to provide more cornering grip.

Junior MTB product manager Carl Kämper has this to say: “It’s the knobs that save me when things get tough. They dig down a bit later but are so effective – even in loose and loamy soil. They provide constant grip, a sensation that extends across the entire tread, right to its outer edges.”

Large centre blocks are said to improve drive and braking traction and there are transition blocks to provide a predictable feel when turning. The overall pattern is also more open to clear mud more effectively and it’s not directional either so mounting should be easy.
