A video from Mashable pits two well-known cycling film makers against one another in a race across New York City – Lucas Brunelle on a Cinelli bike, and Casey Neistat driving a McLaren 675LT.
Neistat – best known for his Bike Lane video – concludes that “supercars are awesome but useless in New York City” as he is held up at a succession of red lights on the way from the Williamsburg Bridge over the East River to the Museum of Natural History on the Upper West Side.
Brunelle, who has achieved a certain level of notoriety through films focusing on alleycat racing, including one shot in London, isn’t going to let traffic lights get in his way, and even manages a stop for waffles on the way.

Brunelle is a Grade-1 fuckwit. Only 30 seconds in he risks killing a child to blow through a pedestrian crossing, complete with adult crossing guard holding a stop sign.

I fail to see the point in this? A bike will always be quicker in a heavily congested city setting. And I echo KiwiMike on this; bloke is an utter knob and this article seriously needs deleting.

Just to echo what the others say. I don’t even need to watch it to guess that he rides like the worst sort of twat. Absolute knobber who needs a Katie Hopkins – Indy style oxygen removal. Who would possibly imagine that a busy city where a driver obeys the rules and a cyclist flaunts them is likely to have the cyclist winning the race whether it’s a supercar or a trabant.

I find cycling across town much quicker than driving even without riding like a dick, so I’m pretty sure the point of the video was simply so Lucas could show off and keep thinking he’s great.
A pensioner on a Pashley would alsoi have beat the car through NYC, making a good point at the same time.

New York looks nice. Maybe he makes cycling aspirational for those idiot car poster buyers. Probably not. Better than more stories about people getting killed while cycling, in my book. I recently completed the new york century ride 100 miles across the city on normal roads and cycle paths, i’d still be completing it if we stopped at every red light. there were no closed roads.
a little unusual maybe in that there were obviously big groups on the road, however speaking to new york cyclists and witnessing cycling behaviour on other days it seems to be the norm that you jump the red light if safe to do so…nobody was lynched and nobody was threatening to lynch anyone

I recently completed the ride London 100 and very nice it was too with no one stopping at traffic lights but steaming past children being escorted across roads doesn’t make you an aspirational cyclist, it makes you a fucking dickhead.
Yes certain states permit right turns on red lights but let’s face it, that’s not what we’re talking about.
