These New Generation mitts from Prendas Ciclismo manage to combine being light and airy with a generous amount of effective padding. We like them a lot.

The polyester AirTech lowers let plenty of air in so your hands don't get sweaty on hot days; if there's one thing I can't be doing with, it's clammy paws. That's overlaid in certain areas with silicone inserts that do a great job of isolating your hands from road buzz. The heel of your hand and the prominent section at the base of your thumb are particularly well protected, and you get skinnier foam padding along the base of your fingers and between the thumb and forefinger, which comes in especially useful when you're resting on the hoods.

I've found the padding really comfortable, and it's positioned just right to keep your hands happy even throughout long and bumpy rides. You also get a rubbery palm print that stops your hands from slipping on the bars.

The light mesh upper is highly breathable too while a terry panel on the back of the thumb is easily large and absorbent enough to handle all your sweat and snot wiping needs.

One of things I like most about these gloves is that you can get them on and off easily without the need for a wrist closure. There's no Velcro tab to catch on your clothing or on the gloves themselves, while loops on the middle and little fingers are handy for getting them off without damaging any seams. They also fit just over your palms with no extension up your wrists, so you just get the coverage you need and nothing else.

We found the sizing generous and went a size smaller than normal. Check Prendas' size chart to make sure you get it right.

That's about yer lot, really. These are just the job.

Verdict

Light and airy summer mitts with effective padding; good value for their level of performance too
