In 2024, OneUp Components unveiled its own hubs that are built to be lightweight, durable, but importantly, affordable. That release was a serious hint as to what comes next, and today, the brand has pulled the cover off its simply named Aluminium Wheels. Like the hubs, this wheelset is designed to be strong and stiff, but lightweight at a price that won’t leave a hole in your wallet. Here are the details.

With the Aluminium Wheels, OneUp has taken an angle of simplicity. The wheelset is built to just perform, while offering a decent ride feel. While the rims feature an asymmetric design, the differences between the two lie in the wall thicknesses and spoke counts. So up front, there are 28 holes, while at the rear, there are 32 in the 29-inch and 650b size. That rear rim then gets beefed up with material added to the bead and section walls. The nipple beds get a boost in reinforcement, too.

Though both rims’ profiles are identical. They use a 27mm depth, a 30mm internal width, angled bead walls, bead retention tracks, and 3mm offset spoke holes, which are said to produce even spoke tensions. As for the finish, they’re welded together, shotpeened, powder coated, and finally, heat-treated.

As you might expect, these wheels run OneUp’s hubs that are machined for 7075 aluminium in a bid to balance lightweight and strength. The freehub boasts a 44t ratchet drive, and both hubs are laced to the rim via j-bend spokes. OneUp promises a full suite of replacement parts, and the wheels are only available with black hubs, so no fancy colours here, for now, at least.

All OneUp Aluminium Wheels come sorted with licensed OneUp Fillmore valves, offering faster air delivery for simpler tubeless inflation, and the wheels are equipped with 3M tubeless tape pre-installed.

The OneUp Components Aluminium Wheels are available in 29-inch or mixed (29″ and 650b) sizes, with XD, Microspline or HG drivers (XD comes as standard), and the best bit is that the wheelset is priced at a very friendly £549.
