POC’s Consort Dungarees are a great option that falls between a full dirt suit and a traditional two-piece waterproof set. The dungaree style gives more protection up the torso to stop mud and water from getting in underneath the coat with the added benefit of a kangaroo pouch-style pocket. They prove to have a great, non-restrictive fit and the waterproof qualities are excellent. The leg length could be a little longer to keep water splashes out of your shoes and the staining on the tan colourway is a shame but, overall, POC has produced a well-thought-out product. The price is eye-wateringly expensive but they are a high-quality and high-performing option if this happens to be your style.

POC Consort MTB Dungaree – Technical Details
These dungarees are constructed from a highly durable three-layer fabric with stretch and reinforced with Cordura. This means the dungarees should be durable, hard-wearing and strike a good balance between breathability and staying dry. For nerdy specs, the material is waterproof to a 15,000mm water column using a fluorocarbon-free DWR treatment and has a moisture vapour permeability of 30000gsm/24hr.
Elasticated adjustable suspenders with buckles and a rear waist strap make it easy to adjust the fit. The trouser legs have elasticated cuffs which keep excess fabric out of the way while pedalling. The legs have been cut to have plenty of room for knee pads underneath.
A double zip on one side gives ease of access and ventilation, while a single zip on the other can be used to adjust ventilation further. There is a zipped pocket across the front – like a kangaroo pouch – and two thigh pockets.
The Consort Dungarees are available in six sizes ranging from XS-XXL and grey or tan colourways.
POC Consort MTB Dungaree – Performance
Starting with the fit, the trouser leg length could be a little longer. At six feet tall and with 32in inseam, I wouldn’t say I’m of an abnormal height but did find the legs didn’t always cover the top of my waterproof riding boots depending on my riding position.
That being said, the rest of the cut is excellent. I found plenty of room in the knee area even when wearing bulky knee pads. The leg does taper down to the ankle which is great for keeping material out of the way and stops wet/mud working its way up the inside.
The elasticated shoulder straps give enough flex to be compliant with the Velcro adjustment allowing a supportive but comfortable fit.
The thigh pockets are plenty big enough for a phone and have a reassuringly sturdy waterproof zip. The kangaroo pouch is frustratingly small, I found it a little too small to comfortably fit a phone (iPhone 11) – I’d prefer to have the phone there over the thigh pocket if it was an option.
Waterproofing is excellent, genuinely staying dry all day in some very soggy conditions. The breathability is ok but you’ll still get hot as you would with any waterproof. The ventilation zips do help with this allowing the sides to be completely opened up although this is impractical if it’s raining while you’re riding.
One massive benefit to the dungaree style is the protection on offer at the back. The joining between waterproof trousers and a coat usually allows wet and mud to get in but the dungarees completely stop this.
As you’ll see in the photos, the tan colour is susceptible to staining even after going through the washing machine – a shame as I really dig the colour but it’ll never look clean again.
POC Consort MTB Dungaree – Verdict
I’ve left it to the end but there is no easy way to say this, the POC Consort MTB Dunagree cost £450. The quality is top notch and the performance is excellent but these are at the top end of the market. Fortunately, there are other mountain bike dungarees available which are worth considering. Madison has the DTE 3-Layer Waterproof Dungaree Bib Trousers, which appear to have a lot of great features and retail for £200. Fox also does an option, the £200 Defend Fire Bib Pants, which are minimalist but offer back protection.
The POC Consort Dungarees are an excellent choice for all-out water protection and offer a great way to stay dry. The dungaree design stops the wet and mud from getting in between layers using a kangaroo pouch for storage. The ventilation, zipped pockets and tapered cut legs round off a well-thought-out product. The legs could be a little longer, the staining on the tan-colour way is a shame and the price is frankly eye-watering but the quality and performance are hard to dispute.
