This is what happens when you import large numbers of unknowns from overseas and export home-grown millionaires due to reckless ideology. Sadiq Khan has wrought more misery on the streets of London than anyone in the history of UK politics, but the issue is that he has enough of a captive market voting for him that he will be difficult to defeat at the ballot box. Don't forget, Khan will be ok as he drives around London in a cavalcade of bullet proof Range Rovers. You? Maybe not so much.

@Rendel Harris wealthy people are already leaving the country in droves due to spiteful class-warrior politics of envy. No entrepreneur wants to have their hard-earned money taken off them, wasted and redistributed to others on these kinds of schemes. These "tax avoiders" in fact pay the vast majority of taxation in the UK. Just today it's been revealed that Sadiq Khan has forced another millionaire to leave London and the UK, Sir Peter Lampl, due to his outrageous anti-growth LTNs. As he stated, London now has the slowest moving traffic of any capital of the world - something no doubt certain commentators here would celebrate - but the net effect is that (along with crime) no sane person wants to live there any more.

My local Green party ran a public meeting a few years ago as part of its campaigns for better cycle lanes in the town here in north-east England. They showed a film made by local schoolgirls about why so few of them cycled to school. The main reason, by a long way, was fear of looking foolish and uncool in front of their friends and of boys. How would better infrastructure change that? In the 1970s when I was a child and as readers are well aware, far more children rode without cycle lanes existing.

@Mmitb I thought the same until I was riding a hire bike (which ironically had a dropper post but which I had locked out thinking I didn't need it) fairly rapidly on a steepish downhill when I came upon a pretty significant bump in the trail that was hidden in dappled shade; I bent at the knees to absorb the shock and the bike came up to meet me at the same moment…anyone else in the woods must've thought Tarzan was on his way from the noise. As my old cricket master used to say when one took a hit amidships, "Don't rub 'em boy, count 'em!"

Really not. Sheesh, I am all for arguing about minutiae but really there are better hills to die on than this.
