Dutch brand Koga is launching a new frameset called the Kimera Road Premium which is said to be a lot more comfortable and aerodynamic than the previous version.
We first showed you a closely related model, the Kimera Road Pro UD, a few months ago and we had the chance to see the Premium version in the flesh at Eurobike (which, admittedly, was a while ago, but we’re slowly getting through the mountain of cool-looking bikes that we had the chance to check out).
The difference is that the Pro frame consists largely of high-modulus carbon fibre and so it’s top of the tree in terms of weight and stiffness, while the Premium frame uses lower grade carbon fibre and has a partial 3k carbon coating.
Compared to the previous Kimera frame, Koga say that they’ve improved the comfort and aerodynamics without sacrificing the stiffness to weight ratio. It’s a great looking bike with a slightly bowed top tube and skinny wishbone seatstays.
The tubes are visibly slimmer than before while the fork crown melds almost seamlessly into the head tube to clean up the airflow in that area.
Koga have also been working on the back end end, moving the rear brake from the chainstays to just behind the bottom bracket. They use a direct mount brake calliper, as they do at the front. It now looks really neat back there.
The new Kimera has internal cable routing and it’s compatible with Shimano Di2 electronic shifting.
The head tube is tapered (1 1/8in to 1 1/4in) for accurate steering, the bottom bracket is a Press-Fit design, and the seat post is a skinny 27.2mm – as is increasingly the case again these days, as manufacturers try to dial in some extra comfort-inducing compliance.
It’s available in frame sizes: 50, 54, 56, 58, 60 and 63cm.
The price of the Koga Kimera Road Premium will be £2,599 when it becomes available in March. It'll be available in two versions, each with a Shimano Ultegra-based spec. The difference is that one will have a double compact chainset and the other will have a triple.

Exactly!
