Team Sky’s signing of world champion Mark Cavendish was arguably the biggest transfer story of 2011, and certainly the most protracted one. His new team’s sponsors are wasting no time in starting to get a return on their prize asset with the screening of a half-hour documentary on him, shown this evening at 7.30pm on Sky Sports News.
The programme, called King of Sprint, comes at the end of a year in which Cavendish achieved his two goals for the year.
The first came in July, when he won the green jersey at the Tour de France in the colours of his former HTC-Highroad team.
Then, in September, future Team Sky colleagues Bradley Wiggins, Geraint Thomas, Jeremy Hunt, Ian Stannard and Chris Froome helped him win that rainbow jersey in Copenhagen.
The British Team that day was completed by Garmin-Cervelo’s David Millar and former Team Sky rider Steve Cummings, who will ride for BMC Racing next year.
Tonight’s show, perhaps unsurprisingly, promises “unprecedented access” to Cavendish, and will see him talk about next year’s Olympic Games, Team Sky’s ambitions for the 2012 season, and also why he believes cycling is the cleanest sport out there.
It won’t be the last time Cavendish will feature on TV this year.
He is currently a very strong odds-on favourite to become only the third cyclist to win the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, presented on Thursday 22 December after a public vote during the live screening of the event from Salford.

Oh come on Gkam84.
Personally I find Cav just one small part of a group of British riiders that have boosted British cycling further than I could ever imagine when I first started watching the half hour of TDF in the 1980's.
If Sky want to spout incorrect 'facts' about Cav and boost positive appreciation of pro cycling let them; better that than a pedants provisos about motorbikes, 2 wheeled microlights or someone on roller skates going down The Cat and Fiddle - or indeed features on those superb Premiership role models..
You aren't Cav's biggest fan? We get it.
I sky+'d it, watched 10 minutes and then hit delete, DULL, BORING, advertising for SPOTY are just some of the things i would say
The part which really put me off was right at the start, "Fastest man on two wheels - FACT" NO, so wrong, He may be the fastest person on a human powered two wheeled transportation device over a set distance, typically anything under 1km, But i'm calling anyone on a motorbike faster on two wheels, also most other pro cyclist's are faster over a stage then he his, when there are climbs involved.............BUT thats just being picky, if they are going to put FACT after it, then they need to wise up
I'm not his greatest fan, but i can normally watch his interviews, this was just a dullfest start till about half why through where i turned off
Have to disagree with you there, I thought it was a good feature and a good advertisment for cycling! Mark Cavendish came across extremely well, the more exposure to cycling on the box the better.
