On another note, how much room am I looking for in my shoes? I'm reading a mixed selection of opinions across the internet as to how tight/loose shoes should be.
I'm looking at the SIDI's and possibly Northwave's or Gaerne's. Guess I'll try them on for comfort at the local LBS's.
I'd recommend a pair of Bontrager RL road shoes. and a steal at only £79.99 in Evans, compared to the £140 i paid in November for them!

what about some of those nice retro style Dromarti ones? i would certainly put them on my list if i was in the market for new shoes.
Mavic fit well in my opinion esp. if you take a half size, and if you go for sidi's well worth going up/down to london to their 'sidi cafe' (http://www.velouk.com/) so you can try on the whole range.
Thanks guys, I think I'm going to go try a few pairs on to get an idea of fit to start with, and start the elimination process from there. I'm sensing it's going to be much like choosing a saddle, and be mainly down to personal preference.
I'd go with Sidi Genious 5 Pro
Shouldn't that be "Nooo shooos!"?
I really like the Gaerne shoes I bought last year from CRC. Quality aluminium ratchet on the strap. Mine are G.Ara MTB shoes; I use Eggbeater pedals on all my bikes and like to be able to walk around. I'm sure the road ones are just as good.
Hi there Matt.
I'll throw out our version for you. This is our Race level road shoe: http://bontrager.com/model/07891
The next level up from this, the Race Lite one comes in at £169.
