Trixi Worrack's career in doubt after kidney removal following crash during race

“This is not your typical cyclist injury like a broken collarbone”

German cyclist Trixi Worrack is uncertain whether she will be able to continue as a professional after having her kidney removed. Radsport News reports that the 34-year-old Canyon-SRAM rider underwent an emergency operation in Italy following a crash in Trofeo Alfredo Binda on March 20.

“I tore my left kidney in three places during the crash, so it had to be completely removed,” explained Worrack, who won the won the UCI 2.1 Ladies Tour of Qatar in February.

She was taken to hospital in Cittiglio after the crash and then moved to Varese where she underwent surgery.

After being allowed out of hospital last Friday, she is uncertain whether she’ll be able to return to racing.

“This is not your typical cyclist injury like a broken collarbone, after which you can calculate roughly when you’ll be back on the bike. I have no idea yet how it all goes.”

Worrack also won the Tour of California last year and recently finished third in the Ronde Van Drenthe Women’s WorldTour event.

I highly doubt she'll make the Olympics.

Took me 11 months to feel normal again, 2 months before I could attempt running. Had I not got quite so depressed could probably have made a full comeback in 4-6 months.

She should be fine in the end though 1

34 years of age, serious crash, racing career not exactly important considering. At least you're still alive, opportunity to try something different and cherish what you do have.
