I used shimano cs6800 cassettes, if you search this website for modifying cassette then you should see further info I have posted in the forums earlier this year

cool, where did you get the parts or did you buy several cassettes and take them apart?

Yes you can mix and match cassette s to give you a range for a particular purpose. I have made 14-32 with single steps in the mid range for touring. I have gone upto 11-40 xtr on the road bike for sheer mountain work. My current two wheelset have 11-25 and 11-32
