LA road bike hire

Hi,

I've got a couple of holidays coming up: Cyprus for ten days in April and LA for 3 weeks over the summer (July - August). I don't like the idea of not being able to ride for that long and was wondering if anyone could recommend a place to hire a decent road bike in either place? All I've managed to find - from very little searching, I must admit - are places that hire for the day. Ideally I'd like to hire something for the duration. In addition, if anyone has done any riding in either place and can recommend some decent routes, I'd appreciate it.

Cheers,

Neil

If you're flying B.A, then they usually allow 2 bags at 23kg each

I hired a road bike from these guys in Cyprus

They were very helpful and the cycling around Paphos was great with some great quiet roads and decent climbs

Also if you have not cycled in LA before, then let me know where you will be based and I can send you in the correct direction for good cycling routes!

Is it my Yorkshire head that noticed the $300 difference between hiring the Cannondale Caad10 Ultegra and Dura Ace groupsets... I know which one I would be hiring 16

Most long haul flights would let you take your bike within the luggage allowance, just as you could golf clubs. You just need a suitable bag or case to pack it into.

Just double check with airlines.

If its a softcase then airlines often put in under normal luggage allowance. But keep in mind you can only take 25kilos often enough. And bike case even softshell case with bike can weigh around 16kilos!

But if its a hardshell case they often consider it as a bike, and then charge extra. Lufthansa charges 100 Euros if its a hardshell, or if your flying business class or economy class and a softshell case then it is usually included in your allowance.

Thanks, that's very helpful. I'll take a look.
I hadn't thought of taking my own bike so will check it out.
Cheers,
Neil

Contact Bike Effect in Santa Monica. They don't rent bikes themselves, but they might know somewhere where you can rent one from. Just make sure you clarify what kind of bike your after, as they might otherwise recommend a boardwalk chopper. 1

Other option to contact is helenscycles.com, they have a store in Santa Monica as well, and might be able to point you in the right direction.

I m in LA for the whole of April, but am taking my bike with me as for four weeks the cost of taking my bike over is cheaper than renting one!

Have you thought of taking your own bike?
