Meet the makers of the David Millar Project

In the run up to Le Tour's Grand Depart in Yorkshire, York’s City Screen will host an evening with the filmmakers of the David Millar Project.

Yorkshire’s Grand Depart may leave you wondering what life is really like inside the bubble occupied by the riders. Documentary director, Finlay Pretsell aims to explore this via “an immersive feature film capturing the very essence of professional cycling”, and York’s City Screen cinema is offering a chance to meet the filmmakers in advance of the Tour on Tuesday 1st July.

Director Finlay Pretsell, who has cycled for Scotland in the past, says: My aim is to create a ‘hyper-reality’, transcending the sport, transferring this feeling of what it felt like to race on that bike in that peloton. I want to create a vivid landscape of sound and image from David’s unique perspective.”

The evening event starts at 6pm and features exclusive footage and behind the scenes stories from the film, followed by a screening of award winning short film, Standing Start, featuring Olympic medallist Craig MacLean.

The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with director Finlay Pretsell and producer Sonja Henrici and moderated by Daniel Friebe, long-serving European Editor of Procycling magazine and author of Mountain High, its sequel, Mountain Higher, and Eddy Merckx: The Cannibal. There will be a prize draw, with goodies including a £150 Retul bike fit at local specialists Cycle Heaven.

The film is due for release in 2015 and is still seeking investors, and there will be a chance to talk to the production company about opportunities to get involved in supporting the project. Tickets are on sale via the City Screen website, and information about the film can be found at http://www.davidmillarfilm.com/.

The film is produced by Cycling Films & Scottish Documentary Institute, the filmmakers are shooting extensively with David all through 2014.
