I swear you guys are just baiting Surreyrider for shits and giggles now!
It is for this exact reason I never purchased any Canal+ branded jerseys. Only saw it once but it was enough.
@mitsky To be fair (through gritted teeth), hasn't the main damage to Hammersmith Bridge been from IRA bombings and boat strikes, though obviously exacerbated by heavy traffic in the subsequent years?
@Andrewbanshee Yes, and at every age, not just at our distinguished and noble years (I'm 57). I've known several people who have been a bit vain about having to start wearing glasses and so put it off for years even when it was quite obvious that they wouldn't pass the driving test "read a numberplate at twenty metres" requirement (which is itself inadequate, in my opinion). As I understand it, in the USA driver licences to be renewed every four to eight years, depending on the state (apart from Arizona and Massachusetts which are twelve years, for some reason), and an eye test is a compulsory element of renewal. High time that was introduced here.
In fairness, at the time they came out Rapha was also constantly offering deep discounts - it's only more recently they've done away with that - so they were basically just following the Rapha model.
Likewise - I've got heaps of their stuff, and been happy with almost all of it. The only thing I've ever had a problem with was a pair of winter gloves that was a shape that no hand ever was.
The bibs were always decent for me, obviously everyone has a different fit/needs, so they won't be for everybody! I'm still a massive fan of their Merino tees, great for bikepacking!
@Krislord Yeah this is a pre-pack job by the looks of it. One of those things that seems like it shouldn't be legal, but somehow manages to be. Like all ubiquitous brands Le Col gets up people's noses. Cycling fashion has moved on a bit in the last couple of years too and you see more PNS and Universal Colours in Richmond Park these days. I feel a bit old for some of that stuff and I still like Le Col because they offer plenty of understated kit.

dodgy smilies… sorry!
dodgy smilies… sorry!
those aren’t the cool
those aren’t the cool stages… Pau to Tourmalet, now *that’s* a cool stage. Over the Marie Blanque and the Aubisque i hope…
looks like they’re trying to string it out to the bitter end again, tourmalet at 18 and ITT at 20 should make the last week interesting.
more on this later btw…
Is that a mountain top finish
Is that a mountain top finish on the Tourmalet? That will be a good stage, swap this years Ventoux for the Tourmalet!
I bet that is the one they choose for the Etape…
Yeah, they’re going over the
Yeah, they’re going over the tourmalet on 17 and then back up it on 18. so one of those two will be the etape i’d guess
The 17 stage is the re-run of
The 17 stage is the re-run of the original Tourmalet route. 3 cols including the Tourmalet I think. That will be a bugger of a day 🙂
Etape is 18 July, follows
Etape is 18 July, follows route of Stage 17 (summit finish on the Tourmalet)
Anyone want to commit early
Anyone want to commit early on to a road.cc jaunt to the pyrenees? I would certainly up for a bit of a group outing.
I will!
I will!
The etape is Pau – Marie
The etape is Pau – Marie Blanque – Soulor – Tourmalet apparently. Yowch. You miss the Aubisque though, so it could have been harder…
The 2008 Etape was
The 2008 Etape was Pau-Tourmalet-Hautacam. I’m a little disappointed that the 2010 is in the same region and, to me, stage 9 Morzine looks more of a challenge.
Guess they want to celebrate
Guess they want to celebrate the centenary of the first mountain stage, but if so that doesn’t indicate much forward planning when they chose the 2008 Etape.

I’m in for a trip to the Etape. Meant to do it this year but a minor back injury meant the doctors wouldnt sign me off as ok by the time the Jan deadline. Luckily I was fine in the end, and went down to have a look at the tour anyway. An amazing holiday.
Dear road.cc, would you be interested in me writing a blog about my preparation for the Etape, kind of like a ‘fat bloke gets fit’ story? I’m keen to do the etape anyway, and I can be witty at times. Current weight is…er, high. But I love love love biking and this could be the journalistic break I need. Or something.

Cheers boys.
hmm… maybe, we’ve got someone
hmm… maybe, we’ve got someone else who is also supposed to be writing a blog about getting fit. Hey we could have a competition! 👿
A competition, as is who
A competition, as is who reaches the summit of the Tourmalet first takes all? At the moment I’m 138kgs, 6’2″ and not really as obese as my BMI rating suggests; built like the proverbial brick outhouse. I reckon I could still drop a couple of stones though, and I can’t think of a better reason to become fitter than I’ll have ever been. Come on mr road.cc, you know you want to. It’d certainly make up for being eternally last in the fantasy football league…!
Gandberg…Im going to take
Gandberg…Im going to take the pressure of being last in the football league off you within the month i expect!
