Hat the hell happened to Impey?…Had to go out for the run in…he was there when I left.

Mind you…What was he doing going for home with over 20kms left as well…

Doubt he would have won with any tactic thoughh.

    Missed Lambrecht

Almost identical for me – As Dr. winston says this one picked itself although that could be distastrous as usual!

Smith looked lively last time out but I wasn’t sure if Mitchelton would be riding for Impey – Having said that the same will be certain for my alternative Hirschi and Matthews.

    ALAPHILLIPE

    MATTHEWS

    COLBRELLI

    WELLENS

    LAMBRECHT

    BETTIOL

    VAN DER POEL

    HIRSCHI

Six the same, but I have Hivert and Clarke instead of Lambrecht and  Hirschi.

It is often those differences that decide a race.

Decided against Lambrecht on rumour of back pain and they will ride for Wellens maybe.  Not sure about my choice of Clarke.  Might depend on where Bettiol is after Flanders.

Thanks. The Strael is the bike James Hayden rides, isn’t it? Probably out of my budget atm, and there aren’t likely to be smaller sizes around secondhand.

I’ve been looking at some Condors, but I don’t know if they’re going to be an upgrade.

Yes, Hayden has been riding a Strael.  Currently £899 for a Strael frameset, so it is a different market to a T2.  Smallest frame is 51, if I remember right your T2 is a pretty small frame.

Don’t have any experience with Condors I am afraid.

Until last year I was riding

Until last year I was riding a Kinesis T2 as my winter bike and commuter with a Cannondale Supersix as my ‘good’ bike.

I then added a Fairlight Strael to the stable which used through the winter on club runs and weekend rides with the T2 being relegated to commuting duties.

The T2 is still a good bike and excellent value for money, but the Strael is a class above.  I definitely know the difference.  With room for 28s and mudguards, hydraulic disc brakes and more comfort it is more pleaurable to ride even through a grotty winter.

It is much more expensive, but it is better.  There is a review on this site and it appeared in a number of Road CCs Bike of the Year categories.

In saying that is fun to have the Supersix back out this month,

I was just wondering the same thing. I don’t know how much my vote matters, but I’d lvoe to see the race in the competition this year since it is a World Tour event.

A World Tour event in name, but with a very disappointing team list.  Only six World Tour teams.  Even the teams are voting with their lack of attendance on this race.

If there is a race I would play, but I will be watching the Ardennes classics rather than the Turkish race.

Looks like I may have my highest stage score ever, 303 I make it.

Hopefully enough to take the win in the standard competition.

Can we introduce a 20 point bonus for unused transfers please ?

Looks good. I had the same team except Bravo retained instead of Quintero.

No transfers left for me. Used the last two to drop Martinez and Schachmann for Landa and Buchmann.

Did he puncture?..i thought he was just called back. Looks like quite a few avoided Buchmann possibly due to confusion about how Bora would play it…or maybe already booked up wih Schachmann and Konrad. Landa was definitely the less confused pick. I’m absolutely mazed that the peleton just let Buchmann ride away from them like that….maybe, like, me, they just had him tagged a grinder on climbs and not a danger in the way he was today.

I just saw him slow up and thought his back tyre looked flat but was probably wrong.

Did Astana and Sanchez think it was Muhlberger and not Buchmann until too late?

I chose Buchmann over Landa because the final climb wasn’t from the difficult direction and I thought Buchmann would hang on.

On reflection I should have dropped Martinez too.

    Missed the Buchmann opportnity.

In reality holding Schachmann for the day won’t be a bad decision.  GC points for 3rd, must still be holding points jersey, best young rider to go with 9th on the stage and a team mate bonus.

I did consider Buchmann, but went Fuglsang and Pogacar instead.  The best play would have been dropping Martinez, but I doubt many would have done that.

He who dares wins (but more often than not loses) –

    IZAGIRRE I.
    BUCHMANN
    FUGLSANG
    MARTIN D.
    MARTINEZ
    POGACAR
    BRAVO

    Schachmann dropped for Buchmann

    Konrad dropped for Pogacar

    Iturria dropped for Bravo

    3 transfers left for tomorrow.

Couldn’t face dropping Schachmann, though I see the logic.  He will still lead the points competition and could still be well placed in the young riders even if he drops significantly down the GC.  I think he will give it his best go.

My team is identical except Schachmann for Buchmann.

    Two transfers left.

    KWIATOWSKI

    MADRAZO
    ITURRIA

The final 3 riders changed about 10 times in the 30 minutes before the start.

Castroviejo in, Castroveijo out, Craddock in, Craddock out, Clarke in, Clarke out, Cummings in, Cummings out,  Konrad in, Konrad out, etc.

Played a similar game.  I didn’t end up picking eiher Konrad or Martinez which is now looking like a mistake.

Dan Martin on the other hand is a winner but also somebody who shows his hand too soon sometimes and sinks…not today though….although he did nearly fall off the back a couple of times.

I couldn’t believe when Dan Martin launched an attack as soon as he caught the leaders & then went on to be the 1st to attack in the finale.

If he had waited for Yates or Bernal to go he could have won.

I’m coming to the conclusion Quintana is exceptionally stupid and can’t do anything unless the DS tells him too.

Today all he did was mark Bernal, when Yates attacked he did nothing and left it to Bernal to chase Yates down.

The other year he did something similar with Contador, he was just making sure Contador didn’t get away and let about 10 other riders go up the road.

I agree. Some riders like Kruiswijk or Kelderman just don’t really have the raw talent to win many stages…they just grind on and do what they do really well…top riders…Quintana on the other hans has all the ability but just doesn’t seem to know how to maximise his own attributes….his Palmares should be better than it is.

Froome and Sky had Bernal.  Simon and MIS had Adam.  Movistar though?

I don’t think it is as much a Quintana issue as the well funded Movistar team is so often less than the sum of its parts (though I do recognise that Valverde’s palmares in week long, stages and classics is excpetional).

    So not a total loss.

Edit: question is, one transfer left, will it be Dennis or Dumoulin?

Look who was last today.  That is someone saving their legs for tomorrow.

I predicted Campanaerts, but didn’t pick him!

    VELASCO

Which probably means, Campanaerts, Dumoulin & Kragh Andersen do well, Ganna too maybe.

I didn’t go Campanaerts either, but I brought in Dumoulin with Dennis.

Roglic, Yates, Hepburn and then Roche, Gesink, Bettiol making up the numbers.

Like your team better than mine.

Ridiculously I have 3 more points in my Purist team than my Standard team.  Purist team going really well though in third (it won yesterday’s stage where I dropped the winner in standard).

Guess who I ditched to get in Viviani?

You are not alone.  I did exactly the same thing.

At least Viviani is in the points too, where was Gaviria who was my other transfer in?

Two transfers tomorrow before it wraps up

Snap! only used one transfer today, at least I chose Viv……

4 left for tomorrow though is a nice very unusual feeling

Hope you have more luck than I did on Paris – Nice.  Used my last two transfers and ended up worse than I would have done with no changes.
