It’s not this. It’s just more contemporary bullshit feeding the too many people in society who expect to be congratulated, rated, and lauded for everything they do.

So few ‘likes’ on this thread. Cyclists reporting feats which would get an avalanche of ‘kudos’ on Strava get no respect here. The ‘likes’ only begin when a fight breaks out in the thread!

    I had to train for a 24-hour

I had to train for a 24-hour ride, and with two months to go I wasn’t able to get out and spend time on the bike (children to mind), so I managed many nights of three-hour stretches on the turbo. No Zwift in those days, just an iPod loaded with AC/DC, Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple.

The first twenty minutes were the worst – after that I got in to a zone and the time passed surpringly quickly!

Without something like a 24-hour ride to aim for, it’s 30-mins max – to a GCN YouTube interval turbo session.

thanks I’m looking later, would that explain the noise easing off very temporarily when changing up or down gears?

Could well do. the creaking disappeared each time i took pressure off the pedals. We’re a bit of a poor man’s CSI:road.cc here without even a body to dissect though.

Let us know how it goes. We’re with you brother.

    Change the brake and shifter

Change the brake and shifter cables. I bet it’ll feel like a whole new bike.

Grinding stuff yourself is exactly that, a grind! The time it takes and the extra washing up makes me not bother.

I have a little single-speed coffee bean grinder. Always grind fresh. Chia one day, flax the next. Barely needs wiping out from one day to the next. Unless I’m actually grinding coffee beans in it.

You can never trust a man with only two surnames for a name. Everyone knows that. It’s one of the basics.

We’re coming to the time of year when you’ll get a decent bike for less than the sum of the parts (and then paying someone to build them up for you). Keep an eye out for this year / last year model bikes. End of year deals are your freind!

Pedals off – for sure. It takes seconds and removes two obvious pressure points. There’s no setting up required when putting them back on, so why wouldn’t you? Other than that, I leave everything else in place. Use the padding that’s provided – and wrap something around the chain because that’s going to rattle around the chain-stay otherwise.

Of course, there’s no guarantee that things won’t get broken. It’s a joy to travel with domestically, but I kind of wish I’d gone for a hard case for flights.

Generations of cyclists rode successfully down mountains in the rain using rim brakes. What’s changed? The rain or the mountains?

The day the Mars and Snickers

The day the Mars and Snickers brands became ‘gym snacks’ I knew the lunatics had finally taken over the asylum. 100g of chicken or quinoa give the same amount of protein and with the bonus of a wealth of other unprocessed nutrients. But then you guys already know that…
