Headwinds are truly miserable – the only solace I take out of one is that it’s the gift of an invisible and unexpected hill. Still miserable though.November 13, 2010 at 11:42 am in reply to: Top 5 cycling related books. The Results, Ladies and Gentlemen! #634257

Bike Snob’s still going
Bike Snob’s still going strong and as forthright and humorous as ever. I’ll stick to the blog in future. It is a perfect example of something that works in one medium, yet not in another. ‘It’s All About The Bike’ is another example – sadly lacking on TV, yet really rather engaging in print. I’m waiting for ‘Road.cc – The Movie’.November 12, 2010 at 7:57 am in reply to: Top 5 cycling related books. The Results, Ladies and Gentlemen! #634251

Finished reading ‘The Escape
Finished reading ‘The Escape Artist’ by Matt Seaton. As Felix mentioned above, it’s a great book to help non-riders understand why we do what we do. Just got ‘Bike Snob’. terribly disappointed. Enjoyed the blog – and that’s where Bike Snob should have stayed. Irritating and not-so-easy-on-the-eye design detracts from otherwise good content. Just can’t be bothered to read it. Any recommended new reads for the upcoming holiday season?

This could be the only ride left in town if things continue to go the way they currently are for Bertie C.

With Rapha it’s not just a stripey jersey you’re buying. You’re buying a good cut, good material, and good workmanship (plus, admittedly, an expensive marketing campaign). How is Torm being compared to Rapha? I haven’t seen anyone comparing Colnago with Huffy just because the bikes look sort of similar. You get what you pay for in clothing as well as bikes! I don’t think the guys at Rapha will be losing any sleep over this. It’s Harvey Nicks vs. Poundstretcher!

Dave and Tony (but probably mostly Dave 🙂 ), thanks for putting on Fantasy Vuelta and for battling through the glitches and gremlins – none of which ultimately prevented any of the fun. There were some incredible scores racked up, not by my team though. Anyway, I look forward to doing it again – whenever you’re ready. Thanks again.

Not on your list (but I think it should be) is Continental. GP4000S are excellent – light, grippy, they claim low rolling-resistance, and I haven’t punctured one in around 5000km. If I’m feeling rash and the situation demands, I run Conti’s Supersonics. They run like a dream – but you’d have to pick the conditions well. They are super lightweight and this means puncture resistance is low. Conti are open and honest about this themselves. I run them with latex tubes and haven’t punctured in around 1500km – but they do wear out quicker than any other tyre I’ve seen.
