The Soviets had a great deal to do with winning the “Great Patriotic War”,  and there are different opinions on the American effect on our language. You might also find other countries don’t think the USA made them more peaceful. The Vietnamese still suffering from Agent Orange chemical warfare,  or the Iranians living in Falluja burnt by the evil white phosphorus ( more WMD) did not feel very safe. Credit where it is due. In many of those years many people were living in dread of Mutual Assured Destruction.

    When did irony die?

Uhr. None of it is at all true (even though they’ll claim them). That was my point.

Do a bike fit, learn (and practice) which are the best aero positions to ride in efficiently (and comfortably), get some 40mm+ aero wheels (spend big), lose more weight.

That Jamis looks good – and by swapping the wheels back to the originals you’ve got a great all-round solution.

    Happy riding 🙂

I ride only Zipp, but… a consideration to take in to account is the Exalith’s better braking power in the wet. I think this is undisputed.

If you’re racing, think of this.

There is a perversity to what you are saying. This guy shut up and retreated  the second I got my camera out, something which ten minutes of “discussion” hadn’t and didn’t look like achieving.

Believe me, this guy didn’t want to listen to a reasoned point of view – HE JUST WANTED AN ARGUMENT – HE IS/WAS A BULLY. If a 66 year old pensioner is able to shut such a person up with something as simple as a camera – you should tell your parents/grandparents.

In the second encounter he stated he “was in social media” and knew “what I was trying to achieve” by photographing him. i.e. posting his outburst. The perversity is that social media, rightly or wrongly (and we all voluntarily take part) relies on and proliferates on such encounters. This guy knew the power of the camera/video and didn’t like it at all when the boot was other foot and he might become a villain in a world which he inhabited.

Yes, you’re right I should have walked away, something which I admitted in the blog. You should have ignored my blog and walked away, you didn’t …

What did I achieve? This guy started off with the intention of deliberately winding me up for no reason, instead, I wound him up. There are some things in society when it is wrong to turn the other cheek and walk away – so just remember the camera is mightier than the sword ( tell your granddad)

But there quickly comes a point where the conflict is over. He’s slammed the window shut, you’ve finished your repair and even had time to buy a newpaper. It’s THEN that you get your phone out again. Why? I just don’t see this as the action of a rational man. You were goading him. Your words:

“The window immediately slams shut and I finish my repair, buy my newspaper and prepare to ride away, BUT I am seriously pissed off. I should ride away. Instead, I cross the road, get out my phone and raise it, as if taking a photo of his house. I am 99% certain he will be watching – the door opens and he crosses the road.”

Are you proud to be a man that behaves this way?

And your comment to me: “You should have ignored my blog and walked away, you didn’t …” is beyond ridiculous. If you’re going to be so keen to share your petty argument, you need to learn to expect the world won’t agree with everything you do and say.

    I read this.

    I read this.

What’s the current obsession with getting the phone out and photographing anything that’s pissing us (society) off? Whatever had gone on before, photographing his house after the job was done is just deliberately provocative. What did you think it was actually going to achieve?

    This is unbeleivable [sic].

49 years of age, 176cm tall and never been over 74kg. Lowest I got was last year prior to doing a 300mile ride over three days. I did all the pre-ride training which reduced my weight and then suffered food poisoning one week prior to the ride. Started the ride at a weight of 64kg and felt lousy on the first day. I finished the ride on day three feeling really strong and after eating a lot of pizza, chicken and cake had regained the weight to about 67kg. I feel that 67kg is my best weight for the hills.

64kg. Impressive, notwithstanding the illness. Good on you for starting the ride. Kudos to the pros for keeping the weight off though eh?

This is a really good question. But, as you suggest, there is no single answer. From my own experience, I went from a year of around 7,000km of flat, dry and consistently fast riding giving virtually no signs of wear to occasionally wet and very hilly routes delivered noticable signs of use within only hundreds. I swap them out for lightweight alloy in the wet. For me, carbon rims can never be considered a ‘consumable’.

I’d take the rest of the year off – rest is hugely underrated.

And get a friend to help with the cable fix – a couple of beers is the magic tool you’re missing – and if that doesn’t work – try your LBS.
